Youmna M'GHIRBI is currently an Associate Professor at the Institute Pasteur of
Tunis, Laboratory of viruses, vectors and hosts (VVH, LR20IPT02), the team of
Medical Entomology. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees of
the science of life and medical entomology and her PhD in biology from the University of Tunis El Manar. In her thesis, she was interested in the study of piroplasmosis, ehrlichiosis and anaplasmosis,
considered as emerging diseases and whose number of cases reported each year in Europe and
the United States continues to increase. The epidemiology of these diseases is conditioned by
the tick vector populations. Therefore, the control of these conditions is often based primarily
on the fight against vector ticks, while the success of treatment depends on the identification
of the pathogen involved. In 2009, Youmna accepted an Associate Professor position at the
Institute Pasteur of Tunis, where she has been since that time. While, at IPT, Youmna has
continued her work on the epidemiological aspects of emerging and re-emerging vector-borne
diseases (arboviruses) according to the "One Health" concept and in the frame of national,
regional and international collaborations.
