A prerequisite for solving issues associated with surf zone variability, which affect human activity in coastal zones, is an accurate estimation of the effects of coastal protection methods. Therefore, performing frequent monitoring activities, especially when applying new nature-friendly coastal defense methods, is a major challenge. In this manuscript, we propose a pipeline for performing low-cost monitoring using RGB images, accessed by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and a four-level analysis architecture of an underwater object detection methodology. First, several color-based pre-processing activities were applied. Second, contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization and the Hough transform methodology were used to automatically detect the underwater, circle-shaped elements of a hybrid coastal defense construction. An alternative pipeline was used to detect holes in the circle-shaped elements with an adaptive thresholding method; this pipeline was subsequently applied to the normalized images. Finally, the concatenation of the results from both the methods and the validation processes were performed. The results indicate that our automated monitoring tool works for RGB images captured by a low-cost consumer UAV. The experimental results showed that our pipeline achieved an average error of four pixels in the test set.

Formalized classification of the class Isoëto-Nanojuncetea has not been performed in Poland. We used 69,562 relevés stored in Polish Vegetation Database. Based on the literature and expert knowledge we selected 63 diagnostic species for the Isoëto-Nanojuncetea class. Unequivocal classification was applied in this work according to Cocktail method. A set of formal definitions was established using a combination of logical operators of total cover of species in case of high-rank syntaxa while sociological species groups and cover of particular species were used for logical formulas describing class, alliances and associations. An Expert System was prepared and applied to classify the whole data set of PVD and 1,340 relevés were organized at the class level. We stratifies the data and finally we used data set of 903 relevés to prepare synoptic tables, distribution maps and descriptions of the syntaxa. Twelve associations and two plant communities were identified. Vegetation of the Isoëto-Nanojuncetea class occur in Poland’s central and southern part, with scattered stands in northern region. We described two new plant communities within Eleocharition and Radiolion alliance. The first formal classification of the Isoëto-Nanojuncetea class revealed a high diversity of ephemeral vegetation wetland found in Poland in the eastern boundary of their geographical distribution in Europe.

Phytogeographical conditions of the occurrence of 13 selected ephemeral wetland species of the Isoëto-Nanojuncetea class in Western Pomerania are analysed and discussed on the basis of distribution in Western Pomerania (maps are provided), distribution in Europe, general distribution range, taxonomic relations and palynological data. Present distribution patterns of the analysed taxa in Western Pomerania can thus be permanent not for a very long time and reflect the history of the settling of Pomerania by these species.

The following paper focuses on evaluating the quality of image prediction in the context of searching for plants of a single species, using the example of Heracleum sosnowskyi Manden, in a given area. This process involves a simplified classification that ends with a segmentation step. Because of the particular characteristics of environmental data, such as large areas of plant occurrence, significant partitioning of the population, or characteristics of a single individual, the use of standard statistical measures such as Accuracy, the Jaccard Index, or Dice Coefficient does not produce reliable results, as shown later in this study. This issue demonstrates the need for a new method for assessing the betted prediction quality adapted to the unique characteristics of vegetation patch detection. The main aim of this study is to provide such a metric and demonstrate its usefulness in the cases discussed. Our proposed metric introduces two new coefficients, M+ and M−, which, respectively, reward true positive regions and penalise false positive regions, thus providing a more nuanced assessment of segmentation quality. The effectiveness of this metric has been demonstrated in different scenarios focusing on variations in spatial distribution and fragmentation of theoretical vegetation patches, comparing the proposed new method with traditional metrics. The results indicate that our metric offers a more flexible and accurate assessment of segmentation quality, especially in cases involving complex environmental data. This study aims to demonstrate the usefulness and applicability of the metric in real-world vegetation patch detection tasks.
