Dr Ranjan's research focusses on bioremediation and valorisation of various industrial, agricultural and municipal waste and wastewater through various microbial route. During her doctoral studies from Indian Insititute of technology Guwahati, India, she explored the potential of rice straw for biofuel (biobutanol) production through anaerobic fermentation. Currently working in the field of algal biotechnology for exploring the phyco-remediation potential of various commercial and indigenous algal strain grown in tannery wastewaters and further valorizing the received algal biomass for the production of value-added products such, ethanol, starch, proteins, biofuel etc. In addition, she is also exploring the pretreatment (preferably with green pretreatment methods) of various lignocellulosic wastes achieved from agriculture waste. The nutrient rich hydrolysate generated is further are exploited as growth medium for selected actinobacterial species responsible for production of PHAs (Bioplastic).
