Sea surface temperature (SST) prediction is not only theoretically important but also has a number of practical applications across a variety of ocean-related fields. Although a large amount of SST data obtained via remote sensor are available, previous work rarely attempted to predict future SST values from history data in spatiotemporal perspective. This letter regards SST prediction as a sequence prediction problem and builds an end-to-end trainable long short term memory (LSTM) neural network model. LSTM naturally has the ability to learn the temporal relationship of time series data. Besides temporal information, spatial information is also included in our LSTM model. The local correlation and global coherence of each pixel can be expressed and retained by patches with fixed dimensions. The proposed model essentially combines the temporal and spatial information to predict future SST values. Its structure includes one fully connected LSTM layer and one convolution layer. Experimental results on two data sets, i.e., one Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer SST data set covering China Coastal waters and one National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration High-Resolution SST data set covering the Bohai Sea, confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed model.

Underwater image enhancement, as a pre-processing step to support the following object detection task, has drawn considerable attention in the field of underwater navigation and ocean exploration. However, most of the existing underwater image enhancement strategies tend to consider enhancement and detection as two fully independent modules with no interaction, and the practice of separate optimisation does not always help the following object detection task. In this paper, we propose two perceptual enhancement models, each of which uses a deep enhancement model with a detection perceptor. The detection perceptor provides feedback information in the form of gradients to guide the enhancement model to generate patch level visually pleasing or detection favourable images. In addition, due to the lack of training data, a hybrid underwater image synthesis model, which fuses physical priors and data-driven cues, is proposed to synthesise training data and generalise our enhancement model for real-world underwater images. Experimental results show the superiority of our proposed method over several state-of-the-art methods on both real-world and synthetic underwater datasets.

Hyperspectral image (HSI) denoising is critical for the effective analysis and interpretation of hyperspectral data. However, simultaneously modeling global and local features is rarely explored to enhance HSI denoising. In this letter, we propose a hybrid convolution and attention network (HCANet), which leverages both the strengths of convolution neural networks (CNNs) and Transformers. To enhance the modeling of both global and local features, we have devised a convolution and attention fusion module aimed at capturing long-range dependencies and neighborhood spectral correlations. Furthermore, to improve multi-scale information aggregation, we design a multi-scale feed-forward network to enhance denoising performance by extracting features at different scales. Experimental results on mainstream HSI datasets demonstrate the rationality and effectiveness of the proposed HCANet. The proposed model is effective in removing various types of complex noise. Our codes are available at https://github.com/summitgao/HCANet.
