Prof. Dr. Cesar Liberato Petzhold earned his diploma in chemistry at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in 1986. After his master’s degree at the Instituto de Química (UFRGS), he became a lecturer (associate professor) at this university. From 1991 to 1994 he worked on his doctoral thesis at the Organic Chemistry Institute of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz (Prof. R. Stadler). Since 1997 he has regularly visited German universities and research institutes (University of Mainz, University of Bayreuth, University of Tübingen, Max-Planck-Institute for Polymer Research) on CAPES/DAAD-PROBRAL missions and the EULANEST program. In 2016, he spent six months at Campinas University (UNICAMP) as a guest professor. From 2007 to 2011 he was vice-director, and from 2011 to 2015 he was the director of the Chemistry Institute of UFRGS. Currently, he has a full professor position at the Organic Department and his research focuses on the synthesis of functionalized monomers, materials from renewable resources, dental materials, amphiphilic copolymers, controlled polymerization, and polymer characterization techniques.
