Dr Sérgio Lima is Research Director of Green Fuels Research Ltd (UK). Dr. Lima is a University of Aveiro (Portugal) graduate with a PhD in Chemistry. Dr Lima has over 17 years of academic and industrial experience in development of sustainable chemocatalysed processes and in heterogeneous catalysts for conversion of renewable feedstocks, e.g. lignocellulosic biomass, CO2 and oleochemicals and into high-value chemicals and advanced biofuels. In the last 4+ years since he joined GFR, Dr Lima was accumulated experience leading the GFR research team in several research projects related with the Fat-to-Fuels and transitioning lately to Waste-to-Fuels. As example, Dr Lima was the Delivery Team Lead in FIREFLY project (UK), a project funded in £1.94M by Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and Department of Transport (DfT) (August 2021-April 2022). The aim of the project was to develop a new technology route for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production using sewage sludge as feedstock and using hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) as key enabling technology. Dr Lima is co-author of 43 peer-reviewed scientific papers, 2 book chapters and 7 scientific papers in proceedings books.
