Associate Professor (Tenure) and council member of the Conservation and Restoration Department, NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT NOVA). Member of the E-MRS Scientific Council (European Materials Research Society) and Working Group on Cultural Heritage. National Observer at the Scientific Council of the ESRF (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility). Responsible for the Structural Materials Group at CENIMAT/i3N Research Centre, FCT NOVA. Collaborator at VICARTE Research Centre, FCT NOVA. Main scientific research activity is focused on structural analysis and crystal chemistry of materials. PhD (2006) in crystal chemistry of petreous and ceramic materials from cultural heritage of the Mediterranean basin using synchrotron radiation. Interest in the characterization of materials using XRD, XRF, TG DTA, SR XAS (XANES and EXAFS). Studies in cultural heritage materials such as glass, ceramic, stone and minerals. Participant in several National/European projects. Coordinator of EIT Raw Materials (European Institute of Innovation and Technology) MineHeritage Project. Responsible Researcher for EIT AMIR (Advanced Materials Innovative Recycling) and RawMaterials@Schools4.0 Projects. Responsible researcher in H2020 HERACLES project, dealing with Heritage resilience to climate events. Co-organizer of symposia dedicated to cultural heritage materials at the EMRS conference and other national events on materials science. Editor at MDPI Heritage journal.
