Water is one of the most important resources for human survival and development. Efficient wastewater treatment techniques such as coagulation, filtration, ozonation, and reverse osmosis have been studied to remove toxic materials from water. Implementation of adsorption columns has been proven to be an efficient wastewater treatment method, particularly for the removal of organic contaminants. In this study, we present the preparation of an eco-friendly graphene oxide–chitosan (GC) composite hydrogel column (GCCHC) and its application as a broad-spectrum adsorbent for wastewater treatment. The GCCHC shows a high removal capacity towards different contaminants including both cationic dyes [methylene blue (MB) and rhodamine B (RhB)] and anionic dyes [methylene orange (MO) and congo red (CR)]. Moreover, the samples can be regenerated and recycled without loss of contaminant removal capacity over successive adsorption and washing cycles.

In this review, the latest advances on nano-enhanced composite membranes (NECMs, which contain nanostructured filler-like materials and nanoscale barrier polymeric substrates), comprising basic conceptions, working mechanisms, selection of active materials, structural designs, desirable effects, existing challenges, and potential applications for water/wastewater purification, were summarized and discussed in detail. This review paper will propose a comprehensive overview of NECMs designed for water/wastewater purification to understand the recent developments among active materials, strategies, or challenges regarding technical and innovative approaches. Several researchers have successfully proven the main capacities regarding adsorption and separation to remove various pollutants from water or wastewater. Herein, the NECMs designed by combining nanostructured filler-like materials and nanoscale barrier polymeric substrates have high performances of adsorption and separation; thus, these NECMs have attracted considerable attention in recent years. Given their nanostructured filler-like materials, NECMs can address fouling-related limitations by tailoring their surface features, particularly the structural design and desirable effect of NECMs; concomitantly, their performance might be enhanced through the use of a specific composition and structure of nanomaterials. Hence, a comprehensive guide of the advanced NECMs for water/wastewater purification, which are constructed on nanostructured filler-like materials, will be provided in detail. Therefore, this paper can provide a comprehensive understanding of NECMs that are designed for water/wastewater purification correspondingly and effectively. Graphical Abstract

Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) is widely utilized as a spice, food colorant, and preservative in India, China, and South-East Asia. With containing potential turmeric extracts and compounds, it has been utilized in traditional medicine for various diseases counting diabetes, hepatitis, hemorrhoids, hysteria, indigestion, skin disease, inflammation, anorexia, hepatic disorders, cough, and sinusitis, etc. So far, a large number of work has been conducted to find and prove biological activities and pharmacological applications of turmeric and its extracts in both animals and humans. In particular, curcumin (diferuloylmethane), a characteristic component with major yellow bioactive turmeric feature, has been found to possess numerous biological actions. Nonetheless, the polyphenol compound in curcumin has been limited for human disease treatments even though adequate studies are utilized in animal trials. Plenty of ongoing studies are also contributing significantly to this promising molecule that to the forefront of human therapeutics as well as its activities in health benefits. Thus, curcumin and some turmeric extracts are considered as non-toxic and highly promising compounds with a lot of potentially biological functions based on an appropriately used dose. It is expected that curcumin and some turmeric extracts can be explored in novel medical applications in the future to effectively against or treat various diseases. Here, we hope that it is likely a good and right approach for using and encouraging this product, and its chemical components and effective clinical applications will be briefly summarized in disease treatments.

With the rapid advancement of modern technology, flexible and wearable electronics, particularly electromechanical sensors, have gained considerable attention for motion‐based applications in medical health monitoring and artificial intelligence. Correspondingly, extensive efforts have been dedicated to enhancing their performance and practicality. Electromechanical sensors based on functional composites and structures accurately detect and monitor the body, generating the corresponding output signals. However, there are several limitations in manufacturing composite sensors, such as the selection and combination of functional materials, geometrical structures, constructed conductive pathways, stability of output signals, and operational lifetime. Thus, this review summarizes notable trends in the electromechanical sensors using functional composites and structures. This also provides an overview of different types of electromechanical pressure and strain sensors, exploring their operational mechanisms regarding triboelectricity, piezoelectricity, piezocapacitance, and piezoresistivity. The unique characteristics of functional materials, including conductive polymers, nanostructured metals, and carbon nanomaterials and composites, are analyzed alongside various design concepts for highly flexible and stretchable sensors. Furthermore, potential applications concerning human motion and human–machine interfaces are also recommended. Additionally, several future outlooks are reviewed for insights into future prospects and strategies. Thus, this review can assist readers in understanding current electromechanical devices more accurately.

Smart biosensors attract significant interest due to real‐time monitoring of user health status, where bioanalytical electronic devices designed to detect various activities and biomarkers in the human body have potential applications in physical sign monitoring and health care. Bioelectronics can be well integrated by output signals with wireless communication modules for transferring data to portable devices used as smart biosensors in performing real‐time diagnosis and analysis. In this review, the scientific keys of biosensing devices and the current trends in the field of smart biosensors, (functional materials, technological approaches, sensing mechanisms, main roles, potential applications and challenges in health monitoring) will be summarized. Recent advances in the design and manufacturing of bioanalytical sensors with smarter capabilities and enhanced reliability indicate a forthcoming expansion of these smart devices from laboratory to clinical analysis. Therefore, a general description of functional materials and technological approaches used in bioelectronics will be presented after the sections of scientific keys to bioanalytical sensors. A careful introduction to the established systems of smart monitoring and prediction analysis using bioelectronics, regarding the integration of machine‐learning‐based basic algorithms, will be discussed. Afterward, applications and challenges in development using these smart bioelectronics in biological, clinical, and medical diagnostics will also be analyzed. Finally, the review will conclude with outlooks of smart biosensing devices assisted by machine learning algorithms, wireless communications, or smartphone‐based systems on current trends and challenges for future works in wearable health monitoring.
