Dr. Agata Zaborska is a researcher within the Department of Marine Chemistry and Geochemistry at the Institute of Oceanology, Polish Academy of Sciences. Her scientific interests are focused on contamination of Arctic marine sediments and the use of radionuclides to study sedimentary processes. She has conducted her research both in the Arctic (Barents Sea, Svalbard) and in the Baltic Sea. She received a Master's Degree in Geological Oceanography from the University of Gdańsk in 2001, and a Ph.D. from the Institute of Oceanology in 2007. Her Ph.D. thesis was focused on the accumulation rates, burial rates, and sources of organic carbon in sediments of the Barents Sea. In the DWARF project, she will be involved in tasks as part of Work Package 4 (Marine Benthic Fauna). She will focus on the calculation of sediment accumulation rates via the 210Pb dating method and the estimation of bioturbation intensity via the 234Th method. She will also work on the estimation of organic carbon accumulation and burial rates.
