Esteban Gonzalez-Valencia received his B.S. degree in Physical Engineering, M.Sc. degree in Physics, and Ph.D. degree in Physics from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications at Institución Universitaria ITM, Medellín, Colombia, where he also leads research activities in optoelectronics. His research focuses on photonics and optical fiber technologies, particularly photonic crystal fibers, optical fiber sensors, electromagnetic surface waves, Bloch and Bloch-like surface waves, and high-performance refractometric and biosensing platforms. His recent work also explores the application of computational modeling and artificial intelligence to the design and optimization of photonic devices. He has authored and co-authored numerous journal articles and conference contributions in optical sensing, photonic devices, and fiber-optic technologies.
