Between 2020 and 2021, we conducted research in eastern Romania to monitor the bioecology of the European corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis Hbn.), an important pest of corn. The bioecology research established the pest stage duration (egg, larva, pupa, and moth), the flight curve, and the flight peak. The bioecological study occurred in the experimental corn field and a field cage. According to our findings, the insect has one generation per year. The European corn borer hibernates as a mature larva in corn residues and continues developing in the spring, when the weather warms. It pupates from May to July over 37 days. Analyzing the data recorded during the winters of 2020 and 2021, we observed that the warming trend favored the high survival of hibernating larvae (60.7%). Due to the large number of mature larvae that had favorable conditions during the winter, there is an intense flight, starting in June and ending in September. When the first moth was caught in the light trap, the ∑(tn-10) °C (sum of degree days) was 245.6 °C. In 2020, the flight was recorded for 94 days. In 2021, the European corn borer flight lasted 104 days. The initial egg masses were detected when the total of ∑(tn-10) °C reached 351.5 °C. Moths laid the eggs for 25 days, mostly during peak flight in late June and early July. The first larvae hatched when ∑(tn-10) °C totaled 438.4 °C, and stages III–V were recorded in the harvested crop. Understanding the bioecology of the European corn borer can offer valuable insights into managing population levels and identifying optimal timing for addressing infestations in corn crops.

This paper aimed to determine the attack caused by WCR (Diabrotica virgifera virgifera Le Conte) and its control by chemical treatments on soil and vegetation. The research was carried out in eastern Romania between 2023 and 2024, where two trials were conducted in the experimental field of the Agricultural Research and Development Station Secuieni—Neamt, where three granular insecticides applied to the soil against larvae and three chemical insecticides used on vegetation against adults were tested. Among the granular insecticides tested, the Force G (tefluthrin 15 g/kg) insecticide stood out with the best results, significantly reducing the number of larvae/plant (1 larva/plant) and, at the same time, the absence of the swan neck symptom was also recorded. Regarding insecticides applied to vegetation, the best results were obtained with the insecticide Inazuma (acetamiprid 100 g/kg + lambda-cyhalothrin 30 g/kg), which recorded a very good efficacy in combating adults of the species (95.4%). In conclusion, applying chemical treatments to soil and vegetation is necessary to control the attack by western corn rootworm (WCR).

Within this station, three experimental variants were initiated that targeted the preceding culture. Therefore, the variants studied were: V1 maize in monoculture; V2 corn after sunflower; V3 corn after wheat. Barber-type soil traps were used to collect biological material, they worked continuously from April to July 2021, where a number of 5 collections were made for each variant. Barber traps consist of plastic containers of approx. 10-12 centimeters high and about 8-10 centimeters in diameter in which I used a salt solution (NaCl) with a concentration of about 20% as fixing liquid. Six traps were used for each experimental variant. Samples were collected at 12-15 day intervals when we changed the fixative – saline solution, replenished or, if necessary, replaced. The collected species were cleaned of all plant remains, other impurities, and then the coleoptera species were selected separately, and with the help of determinants they were identified. The structure, dynamics and abundance of coleopteran species were then determined according to each experimental variant, and the most frequently collected were: Tanymecus dilaticollis, Epicometis hirta, Coccinela 7- punctata, Harpalus calceatus, Harpalus distinguendus Formіcomus pedestrіs, Phyllotreta vittula, Opatrum sabulosum and Pentodonidiota.

Grapholita funebrana is an important pest of plum orchards whose seasonal activity is strongly influenced by environmental conditions. This study evaluated adult flight dynamics in a ‘Stanley’ plum orchard in northeastern Romania during 2025–2026 and examined their relationships with temperature and thermal accumulation. Adults were monitored using AtraFUN pheromone traps in two orchard management systems: conventional chemical management and management without chemical insecticide treatments. Seasonal captures differed markedly between years and systems, totaling 1956 adults in 2025 and 1157 in 2026, while the main flight peaks consistently occurred during the first half of June. In 2025, no significant relationships were detected between captures and temperature. In contrast, significant positive associations were observed in 2026, with the strongest Spearman correlations obtained for mean temperature over the five-day period ending on each monitoring date (ρ = 0.765 and 0.774 for the chemical and untreated systems, respectively; p < 0.001). Analysis of cumulative captures against growing degree-days revealed substantial interannual variability in thermal thresholds. These findings indicate that short-term thermal conditions and heat accumulation can complement pheromone monitoring for characterizing local Grapholita funebrana phenology, although multi-year validation is required before their use as operational forecasting thresholds.

The observations were made in 2020 in cabbage and corn crops as well as in some apple plantations in two stationary. In the Ezareni stationary belonging to the Didactic Station of USV Iasi, the experimental plots were selected for the corn culture, and in the Vasile Adamachi farm belonging to the Iasi Didactic Station, traps were placed in the cabbage crop as well as in the apple orchard. To collect the biological material, the soil traps- type Barber, were used the wet type traps in which was used a 20% NaCl solution. From the collected material, the species of coccinellids were selected and determined with the help of Reitter, Gâdei P., etc. determinants book , or source of internet sites. The most frequently collected coccinelid species were: Coccinella septempunctata, Propylea quatardecimquttata, Harmonia axyridis, Hippodamia variegata.

The research was conducted in a maize crop located in the area of Adea, Bihor County, in 2022.For the collection of entomological material, Barber-type soil traps were used, each containing a 2.5% NaCl solution for preserving and killing the captured insects.A total of 24 traps were used—12 traps for each of the two experimental variants. Each variant included three repetitions, each repetition consisting of four traps. The two experimental variants were:- Variant 1 – chemical treatments were applied against pests (seed treatments and foliar treatments as needed), representing a conventional system.- Variant 2 – no chemical treatments were applied against pests, neither on seeds nor vegetation (ecological system). The collected material was labeled by variants and repetitions, with only the species of coleoptera being selected, which were then preserved until species determination in a solution of sanitary alcohol that was diluted to a concentration of 20%.Species identification was carried out using specialized identification guides. The collected coleopteran species belonged to the following families: Carabidae, Chrysomelidae, Coccinellidae, Staphylinidae, Scarabaeidae, Tenebrionidae, etc. Some of the most important representatives of these families were: Pseudophonus pubescens, Pseudophonus griseus, Pterostichus cylindricus, Pterostichus niger, Harmonia axyridis, Coccinella 10-punctata, Coccinella septempunctata, Adalia bipunctata, Pentodon idiota, Chrysomela haemoptera, etc.
