The objective of this study was to evaluate the genetic diversity among traditional common bean accessions through morphological descriptors and molecular markers. Sixty-seven common bean accessions from the Germplasm bank of the Instituto Federal of Espírito Santo—Campus de Alegre were evaluated. For this, 25 specific morphological descriptors were used, namely 12 quantitative and 13 qualitative ones. A diversity analysis based on morphological descriptors was carried out using the Gower algorithm. For molecular characterization, 23 ISSR primers were used to estimate dissimilarity using the Jaccard Index. Based on the dendrograms obtained by the UPGMA method, for morphological and molecular characterization, high genetic variability was observed between the common bean genotypes studied, evidenced by cophenetic correlation values in the order of 0.99, indicating an accurate representation of the dissimilarity matrix by the UPGMA clustering. In the morphological characterization, high phenotypic diversity was observed between the accessions, with grains of different shapes, colors, and sizes, and the accessions were grouped into nine distinct groups. Molecular characterization was efficient in separating the genotypes in the Andean and Mesoamerican groups, with the 23 ISSR primers studied generating an average of 6.35 polymorphic bands. The work identified divergent accessions that can serve different market niches, which can be indicated as parents to form breeding programs in order to obtain progenies with high genetic variability.
In view of the need to increase genetic variability to obtain materials with a significant capacity to drought tolerance, this study conducted a cycle of a reciprocal recurrent selection of full-sib families of maize. To this end, 64 full-sib families of maize were evaluated in two environments according to their morpho-agronomic data in a randomized block design with two replicates. It were analyzed of Male flowering (MF); Female flowering (FF); Flowering interval (IF); days for flowering (DF); Plant height (PH); Ear height (EH); number of plants at the Stand (NPS); Number of broken plant (NBrP); Number of bedded plants (NBeP); Strawing (St); Ear length (EL); Ear diameter (ED); Ear number (EN); Prolificacy (Pr); Number of diseased ears (NDE); Number of ears attacked by pests (NEP); Ear weight (EW); Yield (YIE) and Total Chlorophyll Index (TCI). The analysis of variance was performed by the F test at 5% significance level, and also the evaluation of genetic parameters. Regarding morpho-agronomic data, the analysis of variance and the analysis of genetic parameters showed that there was no interaction genotype x environment with regard to the genetic variability among the families under study. Lastly, the final selection of the superior genotypes was made on the basis of the ranking of the 40 most productive families, from which, combined with the molecular data, the 30 most productive, most drought-tolerant, and most genetically diverse ones were selected to compose the next cycle of recurrent maize selection aiming water-stress tolerance.

Catharanthus roseus is a prominent medicinal plant containing quantities expressive of alkaloids vincristine and vinblastine in its tissues. For this reason its use has been used in the treatment of cancer patients. Also it plays a significant role with use in floriculture, due to its variety of flower colors, because they are used more and more in landscaping projects. To potentiate its use, know its genetic diversity becomes important to optimization of the improvement of species. Thus, this work aimed to analyze the effect of 17 quantitative morphological variables to the distinction genotypes of C. roseus and to evaluate the genetic variability. Therefore, an experiment was carried out, evaluating ten commercial varieties of C. roseus, in greenhouse, in a randomized block design, with three replications. After 100 days of planting, the morphological profiles of the varieties were analyzed using image phenotyping. Through the analysis of genetic dissimilarity, the varieties were categorized into three groups, and the leaf traits were the ones that most contributed to this categorization. Therefore, the morphological characterization was efficient to characterize the phenotypic variability of the evaluated genotypes.
The objective of this work was to analyse the genetic diversity of a population of Citrus spp. in the south of the State of Espírito Santo, Brazil, for pre-breeding studies. For that, a total of sixty genotypes were analysed, including ten citrus varieties from four species of the Citrus genus. The methodology involved DNA extraction, amplification via polymerase chain reaction, and the use of a set of 16 Simple Sequence Repeat markers. These markers identified 42 alleles, with a variation of one to four alleles per locus, an average heterozygosity value of 0.53, and an average polymorphic information content of up to 0.29 per species. After the analysis, a dissimilarity matrix was generated using Jaccard distance and a dendrogram, revealing the formation of two groups: Group I, comprising Citrus sinensis varieties, and Group II, comprising varieties of Citrus latifolia, Citrus aurantifolia, and Citrus reticulata. Our study demonstrated that the combination of these markers allowed for the differentiation of genotypes within the collection. The results obtained are valuable for the future management of the collection and the efficient use of genetic diversity estimation in Citrus spp.
