Prof. Dr. José da Costa is a Full Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Coimbra. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Coimbra. He is an expert in the fatigue of materials (metals, polymers, and composites) and the fatigue of welded structures using conventional, laser, and solid-state welding processes. His research activities focus on the following six areas: i) Fatigue of welded joints; ii) Mechanical behavior of composite materials; iii) Fatigue crack growth; iv) Prediction of fatigue crack initiation life; v) Multiaxial fatigue; vi) Fatigue of AM produced materials.
