Susanna Kaiser received a Dipl.-Ing. degree in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany, in 1993. Since 1993, she has been a Research Scientist at the Institute of Communications and Navigation, German Aerospace Center (DLR), Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany. She completed her PhD in the field of error concealment and iterative decoding for MPEG-2 at the Technical University of Munich in the beginning of 1998. She spent a 2-month research visit at the Communications Research Centre (CRC) in Ottawa, Canada, in 1998. She has been active in the fields of error concealment for MPEG-2 and MPEG-4, iterative source and channel decoding, maximum a posteriori (MAP) decoding of variable-length codes, communication systems for the concentrating power solar forecast system, and movement models for pedestrian indoor navigation, where she has been involved in various European and German projects. Her present research interests are map-aided pedestrian indoor navigation, movement models, Bayesian estimation, and simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM).
