Anna Zanfardino has been a professor of microbiology at the University Federico II of Naples since November 2022. She obtained her degree in biology from the University Federico II of Naples in 2006. In 2010, she obtained the title of doctor of philosophy in the microbiological field. She was the recipient of many postdoctoral fellowships. Her current scientific interests include the following: 1. The identification, development, and chemical modification of antimicrobial peptides; 2. Antibiotic resistance and the synthesis of new antibiotics; 3. The characterization of new hybrid nanosystems; 4. Plastic degradation; 5. The characterization of natural antibiotic compounds and antibiofilms. Professor Zanfardino received a grant from the Italian Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation to study cationic antimicrobial peptides. She has benefitted from national and international collaborations, and she is a referee for several international scientific journals in the field of microbiology. Professor Zanfardino is also the author/co-author of 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals (Scopus index: 50 publications, H-index of 22, and 1105 citations).
