Ashis Basu received his Ph.D. from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI and did his postdoctoral
research at MIT, Cambridge, MA. In 1990 he joined the University of Connecticut, where he currently is a Professor of Chemistry. The research focus of the Basu laboratory is determination of the consequences of DNA damage induced by chemical carcinogens, anticancer drugs, and radiation. Basu was a recipient of the Research Career Development Award from NIH (1998-2003). He served as a member of the NIEHS Review Committee and Study Section (1998-2002), the Chemical Pathology Study Section, NIH (2002-2003), the Cancer Etiology Study Section, NIH (2004-2007), and the College of CSR reviewers, NIH (2010-2011). He served as the Treasurer of the ACS Division of Chemical Toxicology (2009-2011). Currently, Basu serves on the Editorial Boards of PLOS ONE, Scientific World Journal (Toxicology),
and International Journal of Molecular Sciences (Molecular Toxicology Section). He is the Associate Editor of the journal DNA and the Chief Editor of the Journal of Nucleic Acids.
