Relevance: cervical cancer occupies a leading position among the most common types of cancer pathology in the female population worldwide. According to the results of clinical studies, the use of 3D-visualized brachytherapy sessions in the program of complex treatment of cervical cancer at the stage of planning and conducting brachytherapy creates clinically favorable conditions for effective therapy: the risk of displacement of applicators is reduced, the load for the patient and medical staff is reduced, and the stage of brachytherapy is accelerated. The use of computed tomography imaging in a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment provides good indicators of local control in patients with cervical cancer, regardless of tumor size and clinical stage, without increasing the frequency of severe late toxic effects, which is important and remains relevant today. The purpose of this study is to determine the role of computed tomography in the planning and control of radiation therapy for cervical cancer. Materials and methods: the present study included 18 patients with a verified diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix, who underwent radiation therapy for the pelvic region, the area of regional metastasis up to 50 Gy, preventive irradiation of paraaortic lymph nodes up to 36-40 Gy TFD (total focal dose), followed by brachytherapy under the control of computer tomography imaging. Results: an analysis of the effectiveness of brachytherapy under the control of computed tomographic imaging was performed. After comparing computed tomography images before and after radiation treatment, positive changes were detected in the patients included in the study a decrease in the volume of the tumor, a decrease in the number and size of regional lymph nodes Conclusions: the use of computed tomography for cervical cancer provides the radiologist with objective information about the state of the primary tumor, the zones of parametral and lymphogenic metastasis. Thus, the use of computed tomographic imaging for planning and dynamic monitoring during radiation therapy in cervical cancer allows individualizing the radiation conditions, reducing the radiation load on the risk organs, and provides a guarantee of the quality of radiation therapy.

Background: Radiation therapy is a necessary component of breast cancer complex treatment program, that reducing the frequency of relapses and increasing the life expectancy of patients. Daily fractions use of 2 Gy to a total focal dose of 50 Gy is the traditional standard scheme for radiotherapy treatment. However, like any other treatment method, radiation therapy provides a variety of adverse effects on normal tissues in the irradiated field. Acute radiation reactions of the skin are one of the most frequent side effects of this type of treatment. A practical solution to the problem is development of acceptable treatment regimens to achieve better local control with a minimal risk of toxic effects for normal tissues. The aim of the present study is the incidence assessment of skin toxicity after a daily using of 2.7 Gy to a total dose of 43.2 Gy to the patient’s breast Methods: Study design is non-randomized clinical trial. From 2014 to 2017 years, 160 women with breast cancers, who were treated by the hypofractionated radiation therapy after surgical operations. The skin toxicity was examined at the end of the treatment, 3 and 6 months after treatment by the international scale for assessing criteria of acute radiation reactions developed by the American Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG, 1995). Mann-Whitney U test was used for comparing acute toxicity rate between patients treated with hypofractionation and traditional radiotherapy. A p value of ˂0.05 was taken as significant. The whole analysis was performed with SPSS ver.20 software. Results: It was designated that skin of the patients is well tolerated for hypofractionated radiotherapy, due to lower fractional doses of radiation it gives good results: more than 80% of patients had no toxicities at all with the treated schedule. The rate of mild toxicity (> grade 2) was minimum in these patients (p=0.023). Conclusions: The use of hypofractionated regime of radiation therapy does not increase normal tissues damage and frequency of acute radiation complications. However, some toxic events may take time to develop.

Background: over the past decade, there was an active search of new diagnostic methods of prostate cancer, providing a more accurate assessment of its outcomes. Aim: to conduct a systematic search for scientific information on the evaluation of promising biomarkers used to diagnose prostate cancer. Materials and methods. The search for scientific publications was carried out in evidence-based medicine databases (PubMed, Cochrane Library, TripDatabase, ResearchGate) and in electronic scientific libraries (CyberLeninka). Initially, the decision was made to limit the search by the period of 10 years (from January, 2007 to November, 2017), however, due to the limited number of publications found, we expanded our search interval to the period of 15 years (from January 2002 to November 2017). Firstly, the search was carried in automatic mode, after which the search became "manual", which allowed us to reveal a number of additional publications. The inclusion criteria were: 1) papers published in English, Russian and Spanish languages; 2) trials conducted on humans; 3) trials considering only clinically-significant outcomes of prostate cancer (overall mortality cancer-specific mortality, disease-free survival). The exclusion criteria was the publication’s failure to meet the above described inclusion criteria. Results: all biological markers included in this review can be identified by immunohistochemical studies of prostate tissue samples, obtained through tissue biopsy or prostatectomy. An analysis of the available literature sources made it possible to identify 9 protein molecules whose ability to predict significant clinical outcomes of the disease (survival and mortality) was evaluated in clinical trials. Conclusions: there is a limited number of publications in...

Rationale – The use of 3D image-guided brachytherapy (3D-IGBT) allows adequately optimizing the dose distribution to bring a target therapeutic dose to clinical target volume (CTV), thereby minimizing an impact on critical organs, while ensuring a decrease in the incidence and severity of radiation-caused complications. Use of 3D-IGBT also allows improving the quality of life in patients with cervical cancer. Objective – To conduct a preliminary analysis of the incidence of early and late radiation responses in 3D-IGBT of locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC). Materials and Methods – The objects of our study were female patients with stages IIB and IIIB of cervical squamous cell carcinoma, without confirmed metastases, preceding chemotherapy (CHT) and/or radiation therapy (RT), and surgical interventions in this localization, who underwent combined chemoradiotherapy during the study. Results – Statistically significant results were obtained when analyzing the incidence of late radiation responses. It is important to point out that when assessing early toxicity in the main group with 3D-IGBT, grade 3 responses were not diagnosed, while in the control group, they were observed in 4 (9.1%) women. For instance, the manifestation of grade 3 delayed radiation injuries in the rectum was diagnosed in 3 (6.8%) women in the control group, while in the main group, they were not detected. Grade 2 cystitis was observed in a smaller number of women in the group with 3D-IGBT, compared with the control group (9.1% vs. 13.6%, p<0.05). Grade 3 delayed radiation responses in the bladder were diagnosed in 4 (9.1%) women in the control group, whereas among the patients of the main group with 3D-IGBT, they were not recorded at all (p <0.05). Grade II reactions in the vaginal mucosa and cervix were diagnosed more often in the control group (16.7% vs. 13.6%, p<0.05). Conclusion – Hence, the method we have used to optimize the treatment of LACC by means of 3D planning in accordance with toxicity criteria exhibited a definite advantage, compared with RT with 2D planning. Based on the results of our research, we concluded that optimization of RT for LACC using 3D-IGBT created clinically favorable conditions for effective therapy: it reduced the risk of displacement of the applicators and decreased an impact on the patient via reducing the total radiation doses and incidence of severe early and late toxic effects, providing good outcomes of local control regardless of tumor size and clinical stage.
