Iván Lavandera has been an Associate Professor at the University of Oviedo (Spain) since 2017. He has been the co-director of 10 PhD students and has been involved in several regional, national and European projects, and also some research projects sponsored by chemical and biotechnological companies. During all of these years, and in contact with other national and international research groups, he has studied different enzyme-catalyzed processes, using wild-type and modified enzymes, applied to new sequential or cascade processes to obtain biologically active compounds. In some cases, he has utilized non-conventional reaction media such ionic liquids or eutectic mixtures to improve the biocatalyzed reactions, thus focusing on a better economic and environmental process design. He has studied the use of redox enzymes under mild reaction conditions, and has also studied the transamination of carbonyl compounds mediated by transaminases. To date, he has published more than 110 research articles, bibliographic revisions and book chapters. He recently edited a book about biocatalysis in 2021 with Prof. Gonzalo de Gonzalo in the German editorial, Wiley-VCH
