Spaceborne bistatic synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system with an inclined geosynchronous (GEO) illuminator and a low-earth-orbit (LEO) receiver is capable of providing a vast area of surveillance and fine spatial resolution, which presents huge potentials for future earth observation. In this letter, inclined GEO–LEO azimuth multichannel SAR (MC-SAR) system for high-resolution wide-swath imaging is investigated. Starting from modeling geometry of inclined GEO–LEO bistatic MC-SAR, the signal model is analyzed in detail for the first time, and the equivalent positions of the received channels are obtained. Then, we found the spatial-variant residual phase error cannot be compensated accurately by conventional effective phase center (EPC) processing. Moreover, because of the complex bistatic configuration, the frequency-domain imaging algorithms become extremely difficult to achieve a well-focused and phase-preserved image. Meanwhile, the time-domain back-projection algorithm (BPA) faces with a technical challenge due to the nonuniform sampling in azimuth. To address these issues, a bistatic weighted BPA (BWBPA) for GEO–LEO MC-SAR is derived and presented. Without the procedure of EPC, the BWBPA can suppress azimuth ambiguities effectively and yield phase-preserved SAR images. Simulated data results show the validity of the presented method.

When combined with digital beam-forming (DBF) techniques, multichannel synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems can achieve high-resolution and wide-swath SAR imaging. However, inevitable channel biases will degrade the performance of DBF in practice. To address this problem, a novel channel phase bias estimation algorithm is proposed in this letter. Theoretical analysis reveals that the signal of the first channel, which is considered as the reference channel, can be reconstructed from the signals of other channels, regardless of noise and signals outside the Doppler bandwidth. In the presence of phase biases, there is a reconstruction error after the cancellation by subtracting this reconstructed signal from the original signal. However, by minimizing the reconstruction error, the channel phase biases can be precisely estimated. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is validated by the experimental results.

Recent years have witnessed a growing interest in using WLAN fingerprint-based method for indoor localization system because of its cost-effectiveness and availability compared to other localization systems. In order to rapidly deploy WLAN indoor localization system, the crowdsourcing method is applied to alternate the traditional deployment method. In this paper, we proposed a fast radio map building method utilizing the sensors inside the mobile device and the Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) method. The crowdsourcing method collects RSS and sensor data while the user is walking along a straight line and computes the position information using the sensor data. In order to reduce the noise in the location space of the radio map, the short-term Fourier transform (STFT) method is used to detect the usage mode switching to improve the step determination accuracy. When building a radio map, much fewer RSS values are needed using the crowdsourcing method compared to conventional methods, which lends greater influence to noises and erroneous measurements in RSS values. Accordingly, an imprecise radio map is built based on these imprecise RSS values. In order to acquire a smoother radio map and improve the localization accuracy, the MDS method is used to infer an optimal RSS value at each location by exploiting the correlation of RSS values at nearby locations. Experimental results show that the expected goal is achieved by the proposed method.

To accurately reconstruct the three-dimensional (3D) surface of dynamic objects, we proposed a wrapped phase extraction method for spatiotemporal analysis based on 3D wavelet transform (WT). Our proposed method uses a 2D spatial fringe image combined with the time dimension and forms a 3D image sequence. The encoded fringe image sequence’s wrapped phase information was extracted by 3D WT and complex Morlet wavelet, and we improved the wrapped phase extraction’s accuracy by using the characteristics of spatiotemporal analysis and a multi-scale analysis of 3D WT, then we reconstructed the measured object by wrapped phase unwrapping and phase height transformation. Our simulation experiment results show that our proposed method can further filter the noise in the time dimension, and its accuracy is better than that of the one- (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) WT wrapped phase extraction method and the 3D Fourier transform wrapped phase extraction method because the reconstructed spherical crown’s RMSE value does not exceed 0.25 and the PVE value is less than 0.95. Our results show that the proposed method can be applied to the dynamic 3D reconstruction of a real human thoracic and abdominal surface, which fluctuates slowly with respiration movement, further verifying its effectiveness.
