Background: Many countries and regions have experienced male fertility problems due to various influencing factors, especially in less developed countries. Unlike female infertility, male infertility receives insufficient attention. Understanding the changing patterns of male infertility in the world, different regions and different countries is crucial for assessing the global male fertility and reproductive health. Methods: We obtained data on prevalence, years of life lived with disability (YLD), age-standardized rates of prevalence (ASPR) and age-standardized YLD rate (ASYR) from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019. We analyzed the burden of male infertility at all levels, including global, regional, national, age stratification and Socio-demographic Index (SDI). Results: In 2019, the global prevalence of male infertility was estimated to be 56,530.4 thousand (95% UI: 31,861.5–90,211.7), reflecting a substantial 76.9% increase since 1990. Furthermore, the global ASPR stood at 1,402.98 (95% UI: 792.24–2,242.45) per 100,000 population in 2019, representing a 19% increase compared to 1990. The regions with the highest ASPR and ASYR for male infertility in 2019 were Western Sub-Saharan Africa, Eastern Europe, and East Asia. Notably, the prevalence and YLD related to male infertility peaked in the 30–34 year age group worldwide. Additionally, the burden of male infertility in the High-middle SDI and Middle SDI regions exceeded the global average in terms of both ASPR and ASYR. Conclusion: The global burden of male infertility has exhibited a steady increase from 1990 to 2019, as evidenced by the rising trends in ASPR and ASYR, particularly in the High-middle and Middle SDI regions. Notably, the burden of male infertility in these regions far exceeds the global average. Additionally, since 2010, there has been a notable upward trend in the burden of male infertility in Low and Middle-low SDI regions. Given these findings, it is imperative to prioritize efforts aimed at improving male fertility and reproductive health.

The detailed pathogenesis of endometriosis remains largely unclear despite decades of research. Recent studies have demonstrated that miRNAs play an important role in endometriosis. The expression of miR-142-3p was decreased in ectopic endometrial tissues, while KLF9 and VEGFA expression levels were increased. Overexpression of miR-142-3p or knockdown of KLF9 significantly suppressed CRL-7566 cell proliferation and metastasis, induced cell apoptosis, and decreased both cell autophagy and vascularization. Additionally, KLF9 was confirmed to be a direct target of miR-142-3p and to directly bind to the promoter of the VEGFA gene, regulating its expression. Finally, intraperitoneal injection of miR-142-3p lentivirus significantly attenuated ectopic endometriotic lesions in vivo.miR-142-3p directly targeted KLF9, regulated VEGFA expression, and was protective against the growth of ectopic endometriotic lesions. Therefore, the miR-142-3p/KLF9/VEGFA signaling pathway may be a potential target in endometriosis treatment.

To compare ovarian response to hyperstimulation during IVF between patients who did and did not undergo salpingectomy. Meta-analysis. University-affiliated teaching hospital. Patients undergoing IVF who did and did not undergo salpingectomy. None. The total dose of gonadotropin, duration of hyperstimulation, E level on the day of hCG injection, number of oocytes retrieved, and basal FSH level were evaluated because these reflect ovarian response. Twenty-five studies were identified through searches conducted on PubMed, Cochrane Libraries, Ovid, Web of Science, Science Direct, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang Database through October 2015. The 25 studies included 1,935 patients who underwent salpingectomy and 2,893 who did not. Fixed-effects and random-effects models were used to calculate the overall combined risk estimates. The results of the meta-analysis suggest that salpingectomy impairs ovarian response to hyperstimulation. The total dose of gonadotropin was significantly increased after combined salpingectomy (inverse variance [IV] 0.10 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.03, 0.16]; I(2) = 30%) and bilateral salpingectomy (IV [95% CI] 0.23 [0.09, 0.37]; I(2) = 36%). The number of oocytes retrieved decreased significantly after unilateral salpingectomy (IV [95% CI] -0.17 [-0.27, -0.06]; I(2) = 31%) and bilateral salpingectomy (IV [95% CI] -0.20 [-0.32, -0.08]; I(2) = 48%). In addition, a statistically significant reduction was found between the number of oocytes retrieved from the ipsilateral and contralateral ovary (IV [95% CI] 0.25 [-0.40, -0.10]; I(2) = 48%). Finally, bilateral salpingectomy may lead to an increase in the FSH level (IV [95% CI] 0.39 [0.20, 0.59]; I(2) = 0%). Heterogeneity moderators were identified by performing subgroup and sensitivity analyses. No evidence of publication bias was observed. This meta-analysis indicated that salpingectomy may impair ovarian response to hyperstimulation during IVF. Further high-quality research is needed to confirm our findings and to develop therapeutic methods that are alternatives to salpingectomy for maternal well-being.

A meta‐analysis and systematic review assessing randomised controlled trials (RCTs) was sought to determine whether subcutaneous injection of insulin with hypertonic glucose promotes healing in postoperative incisions with aseptic fat liquefaction. We searched the Cochrane library, Pubmed, EMBASE, National Science Digital Library (NSDL) and China Biological Medicine Database (CBMdisc) for literature published from 1 January 1990 to 30 September 2011. RCTs that evaluated subcutaneous injection of insulin with hypertonic glucose as a treatment for postoperative wound with fat liquefaction were sought. Wound healing was the primary endpoint. Jadad score and Cochrane Collaboration's tool were used for assessing quality of studies and risk of bias. We abstracted data regarding time to wound healing, cost and adverse effects. The random‐effects inverse variance model was used for all analyses using weighted mean difference and 95% confidence interval. Eight trials (414 participants) were identified that met the inclusion criteria. Subcutaneous injection of insulin with hypertonic glucose significantly reduces time to healing by 6·33 days compared with conventional drainage, with less cost. There was no report concerning adverse effects. Subcutaneous injection of insulin with hypertonic glucose may improve the healing process in postoperative wounds with aseptic fat liquefaction.

Background: Antioxidant micronutrients have a therapeutic potential for clinical treatment of obesity. NO research, however, has examined the connection between the complex level of dietary antioxidants and obesity.Materials and methods: We mainly aimed to investigate the relationship between a combination of antioxidants and obesity using the database of the national health and nutrition examination survey (NHANES). This cross-sectional study contains a survey of 41,021 people (≥18 years) in total ranging from 2005 to 2018. Multivariate logistic and weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression were performed to investigate the associations between these antioxidants, both individually and collectively, and the prevalence of obesity. The restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression was also utilized to analyze the linearity of these associations. Results: According to multivariate logistic models, we found that the levels of most antioxidants in the highest quartile were independently related to a lower prevalence of obesity, while a reverse result was observed in selenium (p for trend <0.05). The WQS index revealed that a total of the 11 antioxidants is negatively related to the prevalence of obesity and abdominal obesity (all p<0.001), and iron/vitamin C have the greatest weight in the negative associations between antioxidant complex and obesity, as well as abdominal obesity. In addition, the RCS regression showed that retinol, vitamin A, α-carotene, β-carotene, β-cryptoxanthin, vitamin C, iron, and copper all had a non-linear association with obesity. Threshold effect analysis demonstrated that the inflection points of retinol, vitamin A, α-carotene, β-carotene, β-cryptoxanthin, vitamin C, iron, and cooper were 235.57, 374.81, 58.89, 891.44, 30.70, 43,410.00, 11,240.00, and 990.00 μg/day, respectively. Conclusion: Our study found that a high level of a complex of 11 dietary antioxidants is related to a lower prevalence of obesity and abdominal obesity, among this inverse associations iron and vitamin C have the greatest weight.
