Dr. Francisco León received his degree in Chemistry from the National University of Colombia, Bogota, Colombia, and pursued his doctoral degree in Organic Chemistry at La Laguna University, Tenerife, Spain. He held research positions at the European University of Madrid, the Spanish National Research Council, and the University of Mississippi, School of Pharmacy. Dr. León then joined the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, College of Pharmacy, University of Florida, as a Research Assistant Professor. Recently, he moved to the University of South Carolina, where he is now an Assistant Professor in the Department of Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences, College of Pharmacy. Dr. León’s research interests focus on the chemistry of natural products from various sources, such as plants and fungi, including the synthesis and semi-synthesis of bioactive compounds. He concentrates on evaluating extracts, fractions, and pure compounds for their interactions with diverse targets, with particular emphasis on pain and neurological disorders.
