Press-in open caisson method, which sinks into soil with the aid of mechanical pressure without excavation, is becoming an important method of construction in extremely soft foundations. However, many engineering problems are prone to occur in the construction of caissons, such as sinking and large deformation. In this study, the stratigraphic response model, such as soil migration during the press-in process of open caisson, is focused on. Through model tests of soil and caissons, the migration patterns of each part of the soil were carried out, and the mechanism underlying the stratigraphic response pattern was investigated. The three primary conclusions are as follows: 1) The bottom edge foot of caisson produces lateral extrusion on surrounding soil in the range of 10 cm (20%H) below, resulting in lateral movement of soil. 2) two kinds of plug, i.e., “wedged” and “unwedged” plugs exist, and the driven forces for the soil migration can be divided into three stages, i.e., caused by soil plug with active arch, by soil plug with passive arch and caused by soil squeezing effect. 3) there is a significant linear correlation between the soil plug changes, the horizontal movement of the deep soil body, and the displacement of the surface uplift. The soil plugging effect and squeezing effect are interacted and enhanced with each other. This study provides a new understanding of the stratigraphic response in the construction of press-in open caissons, and guides safety control of open caissons construction.
Large-scale infrastructure projects involve numerous complex processes, and even small construction management (CM) deficiencies can lead to significant resource waste. Digital twins (DTs) offer a potential solution to the management side of the problem. The current DT models focus on real-time physical space mapping, which causes the fragmentation of process data in servers and limits lifecycle algorithm implementation. In this paper, we propose a DT framework that integrates process twins to achieve process discovery through process mining and that serves as a supplement to DTs. The proposed framework was validated in a highway project. Based on BIM, GIS, and UAV physical entity twins, construction logs were collected, and process discovery was performed on them using process mining techniques, achieving process mapping and conformance checking for the process twins. The main conclusions are as follows: (1) the process twins accurately reflect the actual construction process, addressing the lack of process information in CM DTs; (2) process variants can be used to analyze abnormal changes in construction methods and identify potential construction risks in advance; (3) sudden changes in construction nodes during activities can affect resource allocation across multiple subsequent stages; (4) process twins can be used to visualize construction schedule risks, such as lead and lag times. The significance of this paper lies in the construction of process twins to complement the existing DT framework, providing a solution to the lost process relationships in DTs, enabling better process reproduction, and facilitating prediction and optimization. In future work, we will concentrate on conducting more in-depth research on process twins, drawing from a wider range of data sources and advancing intelligent process prediction techniques.
The analysis of the impact of the construction of the subway protection zone on the adjacent subway tunnel has become the premise on which to ensure the safe operation of the tunnel. The need for expert members to carry out safety assessments based on specific calculations to determine the impact of construction on the safety of protected tunnels is extremely inconvenient for safety management and significantly reduces management efficiency. This paper analyzes and qualitatively judges the influence range and disturbance size of pile foundation construction, shallow foundation engineering, and foundation pit excavation. Based on relevant research results from scholars and numerical simulation methods, quantitative analysis and comparison are performed on the parameter sensitivity of pile foundation engineering, shallow foundation engineering, and foundation pit engineering along the subway line, and the influence of multi-factor combination is studied and discussed to obtain the influence sensitivity of each factor. The results show that the increase in pile spacing can effectively reduce the pile group effect. The sensitivity of subway tunnel settlement displacement is mainly controlled by the settlement displacement value. The larger the settlement displacement is, the stronger the sensitivity is. The loaded pile foundation arranged along the direction of the subway tunnel has more obvious disturbance to the subway tunnel than that arranged perpendicular to the direction of the subway tunnel.
