Hongxiang Lou received his B.Sc. from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Shandong Medical University in 1985, his M.Sc. from the Institute of Materia Medica, Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences in 1988, and a Ph.D. from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Shenyang Pharmaceutical University in 1991. He is a Professor and Vice President of Shandong University. His research interests mainly focus on (1) bioactive chemicals from natural products; (2) biological mechanisms of natural antifungal and antitumor constituents; and (3) the synthesis of important natural compounds.
