Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has rapidly evolved into a worldwide pandemic causing a serious global public health problem. The risk of vertical transmission of SARS-CoV-2 is still debated, and the consequences of this virus on pregnant women and their fetuses remain unknown. We report a case of pregnancy complicated with hydrops fetalis that developed 7 weeks after recovery from a mild SARS-CoV-2 infection, leading to intrauterine death of the foetus. Evidence of SARS-CoV-2 placentitis was demonstrated by the presence of viral particles in the placenta identified by immunohistochemistry. As we excluded all possible etiological factors for non-immunologic hydrops fetalis, we believe that the fetal consequences of our case are related to vertical transmission of SARS-CoV-2 virus. To the best of our knowledge, this is the second reported case in the literature of COVID-19 infection complicated with hydrops fetalis and intrauterine fetal demise.

Background and Objectives: Uterine cancer is the most common gynaecologic malignancy in developed countries, yet the psychosocial sequelae of treatment are incompletely described. This prospective, single-centre study quantified six-month changes in the quality of life (QoL) and perceived stress in women with newly diagnosed uterine cancer and explored clinical moderators of change. Methods: Participants completed four validated self-report questionnaires: the 36-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36), the 26-item World Health Organization Quality-of-Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF), the 30-item EORTC QLQ-C30 and the 10-item Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) before therapy and again six months after surgery ± adjuvant chemoradiation. Subgroup analyses were performed for stage (FIGO I–II vs. III–IV). Results: Mean SF-36 Physical Functioning improved from 58.7 ± 12.1 to 63.1 ± 12.6 (Δ = +4.4 ± 7.3; p = 0.000, d = 0.36). PSS declined from 24.1 ± 5.6 to 20.8 ± 5.4 (Δ = −3.3 ± 5.0; p < 0.001, d = 0.66). The WHOQOL-BREF Physical and Psychological domains rose by 4.4 ± 6.9 and 3.5 ± 7.3 points, respectively (both p < 0.01). EORTC QLQ-C30 Global Health increased 5.1 ± 7.6 points (p < 0.001) with parallel reductions in fatigue (−5.4 ± 9.0) and pain (−4.8 ± 8.6). Advanced-stage patients showed larger reductions in stress (ΔPSS −3.5 ± 2.5 vs. −2.3 ± 2.3; p = 0.036) but similar QoL gains. ΔPSS correlated inversely with ΔWHOQOL Psychological (r = −0.53) and ΔSF-36 Mental Health (r = −0.49) and positively with ΔEORTC Global Health (r = −0.42) (all p < 0.001). Conclusions: Over six months, multimodal uterine cancer treatment was associated with clinically meaningful QoL improvements and moderate stress reduction. Greater stress relief paralleled superior gains in psychological and global health indices, highlighting the importance of integrative survivorship care.

Tuberous sclerosis complex is a multisystemic genetic disorder with high phenotypical variability. Its progress frequently brings along autism (61%), epilepsy, intellectual disability (45%), and neurocognitive impairment (Gipson and Johnston, 2017). We are considering the case of an infant suspected with tuberous sclerosis complex by imagistic investigation in the prenatal period. The pre- and postnatal ultrasound, fetal MRI, ophthalmoscopy, and dermatological and neurological examinations were used for diagnosis and follow-up. The seven major and minor criteria were regarded as sufficient for accurate diagnosis.

This study aims to investigate the association between anemia and early recurrence in endometrial cancer patients. We retrospectively analyzed the data of 473 endometrial cancer patients treated at our hospital from January 2015 to December 2020. Patients were divided into two groups based on their hemoglobin (Hb) level: anemia group (Hb < 12 g/dL) and non-anemia group (Hb ≥12 g/dL). Early recurrence was defined as recurrence within 2 years of diagnosis. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify the predictors of early recurrence. The prevalence of anemia was 38.26% (181/473). The incidence of early recurrence was 12.89% (61/473) in the anemia group and 9.24% (38/412) in the non-anemia group (p = 0.004). Univariate analysis showed that anemia was a significant predictor of early recurrence (odds ratio (OR) = 2.27, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.35–3.80, p = 0.003). Multivariate analysis confirmed that anemia was an independent predictor of early recurrence (OR = 2.11, 95% CI: 1.21–3.84, p = 0.01). Anemia is an independent predictor of early recurrence in endometrial cancer patients. Patients with endometrial cancer should be screened for anemia and treated if present. Additionally, patients with anemia should be closely monitored for early signs of recurrence and treated aggressively.

Background and Objectives: Maternal dyslipidaemia and low-grade inflammation are recognised drivers of in utero vascular remodelling, yet composite dynamic markers that integrate lipid–glycaemic, inflammatory and endothelial signals have not been evaluated. We investigated whether eight-week trajectories in the triglyceride–glucose index (TyG), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and flow-mediated dilation (FMD) outperform single-timepoint lipids for predicting fetal aortic remodelling. Materials and Methods: In a prospective repeated-measures study, 90 singleton pregnancies were examined at 24–26 weeks (Visit-1) and 32–34 weeks (Visit-2). At each visit, we obtained fasting lipids, TyG index, hsCRP, IL-6, oxidative-stress markers (MDA, NOx), brachial flow-mediated dilation (FMD), carotid IMT and uterine-artery Doppler, together with advanced fetal ultrasonography (abdominal-aorta IMT, ventricular strain, Tei-index, fetal pulse-wave velocity). Mothers were grouped by k-means clustering of the visit-to-visit change (Δ) in TG, TyG, hsCRP, IL-6 and FMD into three Metabolic-Inflammatory Response Phenotypes (MIRP-1/2/3). Linear mixed-effects models and extreme-gradient-boosting quantified associations and predictive performance. Results: Mean gestational TG rose from 138.6 ± 14.1 mg/dL to 166.9 ± 15.2 mg/dL, TyG by 0.21 ± 0.07 units and FMD fell by 1.86 ± 0.45%. MIRP-3 (“Metabolic + Inflammatory”; n = 31) showed the largest change (Δ) Δ-hsCRP (+0.69 mg/L) and Δ-FMD (–2.8%) and displayed a fetal IMT increase of +0.17 ± 0.05 mm versus +0.07 ± 0.03 mm in MIRP-1 (p < 0.001). Mixed-effects modelling identified Δ-TyG (β = +0.054 mm per unit), Δ-IL-6 (β = +0.009 mm) and Δ-FMD (β = –0.007 mm per %) as independent determinants of fetal IMT progression. An XGBoost model incorporating these Δ-variables predicted high fetal IMT (≥90th percentile) with AUROC 0.88, outperforming logistic regression (AUROC 0.74). Conclusions: A short-term surge in maternal TyG, IL-6 and endothelial dysfunction delineates a high-risk phenotype that doubles fetal aortic wall thickening and impairs myocardial performance. Composite dynamic indices demonstrated superior predictive value compared with individual lipid markers.
