In order to understand the pyrolysis mechanism of β-O-4 type lignin dimers, a pyrolysis model is proposed which considers the effects of functional groups (hydroxyl, hydroxymethyl and methoxyl) on the alkyl side chain and aromatic ring. Furthermore, five specific β-O-4 type lignin dimer model compounds are selected to investigate their integrated pyrolysis mechanism by density functional theory (DFT) methods, to further understand and verify the proposed pyrolysis model. The results indicate that a total of 11 pyrolysis mechanisms, including both concerted mechanisms and homolytic mechanisms, might occur for the initial pyrolysis of the β-O-4 type lignin dimers. Concerted mechanisms are predominant as compared with homolytic mechanisms throughout unimolecular decomposition pathways. The competitiveness of the eleven pyrolysis mechanisms are revealed via different model compounds, and the proposed pyrolysis model is ranked in full consideration of functional groups effects. The proposed pyrolysis model can provide a theoretical basis to predict the reaction pathways and products during the pyrolysis process of β-O-4 type lignin dimers.

Melting solidification experiments of municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) fly ash were carried out in a high-temperature tube furnace device. An ash fusion temperature (AFT) test, atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were applied in order to gain insight into the ash fusibility, the transformation during the melting process, and the leaching behavior of heavy metals in slag. The results showed that oxide minerals transformed into gehlenite as temperature increased. When the temperature increased to 1300 °C, 89 °C higher than the flow temperature (FT), all of the crystals transformed into molten slag. When the heating temperatures were higher than the FT, the volatilization of the Pb, Cd, Zn, and Cu decreased, which may have been influenced by the formation of liquid slag. In addition, the formation of liquid slag at a high temperature also improved the stability of heavy metals in heated slag.

2,5-diketopiperazine (DKP) was used as a N-containing model compound to investigate the formation pathway of NOx precursors (HCN, NH3, and HNCO) during biomass pyrolysis. The experiment was carried out using a tube furnace coupled with a Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer in an argon atmosphere. The results showed that NH3, HCN, and HNCO were the major N-containing species formed during DKP fast pyrolysis. The largest yield was HCN, followed by NH3 and lastly HNCO. When the pyrolysis temperature was increased, the yield of NH3 increased slowly, but the yield of HCN decreased slightly at 800~950 °C and the change accelerate rapidly above 950 °C. Then NH3 became the main product above 1020 °C. The temperature influence was negligible on the selectivity between HCN and NH3 from pyrolysis of DKP. H radicals played an important role in competitive reactions. It was also noted that the presence of Na+, K+, Ca2+, and Mg2+ exhibited a catalytic effect on nitrogen conversion during the DKP fast pyrolysis process. K+ and Na+ were beneficial to the yield of NH3, but not to the yield of HCN. Ca2+ and Mg2+ could promote the formation of HCN, but prevent the formation of NH3.

Although numerous reviews have discussed the research progress in “filtration-type” oil–water membrane separation with special wettability, they predominantly focus on the types of membrane separation and preparation methods, without providing an in-depth analysis of the separation principles and strategies. This paper is different from the previous reviews focusing on the types and preparation methods of membrane separation, mainly as regards membrane surface adsorption, liquid through the pores, and liquid extraction from the pores of the three key nodes in order to analyze the impact of membrane block wettability on the oil–water separation effect of the independent influence. Accordingly, we summed up the membrane separation principle and design strategy to guide modular wettability design during membrane fabrication, thereby enhancing membrane wettability. The modular wettability design approach can provide guidance during the membrane development phase, offering potential solutions to extend membrane lifespan and address issues of surface fouling and pore clogging while enhancing mass transfer efficiency during operation.
