Dr. Milton Kampel has a degree in Oceanography from the State University of Rio de Janeiro-UERJ in 1988; a Master’s degree in Remote Sensing from the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) in 1993; a PhD in Oceanography (Biological Oceanography) from the University of São Paulo-Institute Oceanographic-IOUSP in 2003; and Post-Doctorate at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography, Canada, in 2005. He is currently a Senior Researcher at the National Institute for Space Research, working in the General Coordination of Earth Observation (OBT). He was Head of the Remote Sensing Division between September 2008 and November 2013. He develops remote sensing applications, satellite data telemetry, and technology in Oceanography and the Environment, mainly on the following topics: ocean color, primary productivity, analysis of variability of phytoplankton biomass, monitoring of marine ecosystems, analysis of sea surface temperature fields, coastal management, mapping of mangroves and coral reefs, among others.
