Deep Impact?: On 15 February 2013, the Russian district of Chelyabinsk, with a population of more than 1 million, suffered the impact and atmospheric explosion of a 20-meter-wide asteroid—the largest impact on Earth by an asteroid since 1908.
Popova
et al. (p. 1069 , published online 7 November; see the Perspective by Chapman ) provide a comprehensive description of this event and of the body that caused it, including detailed information on the asteroid orbit and atmospheric trajectory, damage assessment, and meteorite recovery and characterization.
Methods of synthesis of nanotubular structures based on titania of various phase and chemical compositions are described. A systematic account is given of known data about the influence of synthesis and subsequent treatment conditions on the amorphous and crystal structures, specific surface area, morphology and optical, luminescence and electro-physical properties of titania-based nanotubular oxide materials. The photocatalytic properties in the oxidation reactions of organic compounds and the performance characteristics of the memristive behaviour of TiO2-based nanotubular structures are considered in details. Their applications are discussed. The bibliography includes 238 references.
Quantum dots are the most exciting representatives of nanomaterials. They are synthesized using advanced methods of nanotechnology pertaining to both inorganic and organic chemistry. Quantum dots possess unique physical and chemical properties; therefore, they are used in very different fields of physics, chemistry, biology, engineering and medicine. It is not surprising that the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 2023 was given for discovery and synthesis of quantum dots. This review addresses modern methods for the synthesis of quantum dots and their optical properties and practical applications. In the beginning, a short insight into the history of quantum dots is given. Many gifted scientists, including chemists and physicists, were engaged in these studies. The synthesis of quantum dots in solid and liquid matrices is described in detail. Quantum dots are well-known owing to their unique optical properties; that is why the attention in the review is focused on the quantum-size effect. The causes for fascinating blinking of quantum dots and techniques for observation of a single quantum dot are considered. The last part of the review describes mportant applications of quantum dots in biology, medicine and quantum technologies. The bibliography includes 772 references.

A layer of titanium dioxide (TiO2- NT) nanotubes 500 nm thick with average diameters of 60 nm is grown via anodizing. Memristive behavior typical of synthesized Ti/TiO2- NT/Au structures is observed...
Using the second-order derivative spectrophotometry method, we have determined the energy of optical transitions of colloidal InP/ZnS core-shell quantum dots at room temperature: E1 = 2.60 eV corresponds to a first exciton absorption peak of the InP core, E2 = 4.70 eV appears to meet the processes in the ZnS shell. We have investigated E1(T) temperature dependence within 6.5 – 296 K range for the first time. The obtained experimental data have been approximated by means of a linear model and Fan’s expression. Also, it has been shown that the interaction between excitons and longitudinal acoustic phonons causes the energy E1 to change with temperature. In this case, the peak’s FWHM remains invariant and amounts to 0.39 eV, which indicates the inhomogeneous broadening character and a high degree of static disorder in the ensemble of the quantum dots studied.
