Parveen Akhtar received her BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir in 2008, her MSc in Plant Sciences from the University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and her Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Szeged in 2018. Her postdoctoral research, conducted at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, developed her expertise in ultrafast spectroscopy of photosynthetic systems. She then served as a research fellow at the ELI-ALPS laser facility in Szeged before taking her current role as a research associate at the HUN-REN Biological Research Centre, Szeged. Here, she studies the mechanisms of light harvesting in photosynthesis and the dynamics and regulation of excitation energy transfer in photosynthetic membranes and proteins. Dr. Akhtar has authored 42 peer-reviewed articles, including 38 in top-tier (Q1) journals, contributing as first or last author on 18 papers. Her work is well-recognized, earning awards like the Ernst Jenő Award from the Hungarian Biophysical Society, the Róbert Bárány Prize from the Hungarian Research Network, the Young Investigator Award of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Scientia Amabilis Award from the Foundation for Hungarian Plant Physiology, and the 2023 best publication prize “Qualitas Biologica” of the Biological Research Centre, Szeged.
