Prof. Takashi Hayashita received a PhD from Kyushu University in 1985. He joined Sophia University in 2005 as Professor of the Faculty of Science and Technology following his teaching experience as Associate Professor at Saga University and Tohoku University. Since 2010, he has been serving as the Dean of Faculty of Science and Technology as well as the Chair of Graduate School of Science and Engineering, and in 2014–2017 he became the 15th President of Sophia University. Prof. Hayashita was an organizer of ICS 2018 held in Tokyo. He serves now the Vice President of the Japan Society of Cyclodextrins, the Japan Society for Analytical Chemistry, and the President of Japan Association of Ion Exchange. His current research interest is the development of supramolecular analytical reagents for the selective separation and sensing of ions, molecules, and bacteria in water.
