This article proposes a novel control method for vehicle active suspension systems in the presence of time-varying input delay and unknown nonlinearities. An unknown system dynamics estimator (USDE), which employs first-order low-pass filter operations and has only one tuning parameter, is constructed to deal with unknown nonlinearities. With this USDE, the widely used function approximators (e.g., neural networks and fuzzy-logic systems) are not needed, and the intermediate variables and observer used in the traditional estimators are not required. This estimator has a reduced computational burden, trivial parameter tuning and guaranteed convergence. Moreover, a predictor-based compensation strategy is developed to handle the time-varying input delay. Finally, we combine the suggested USDE and predictor to design a feedback controller to attenuate the vibrations of vehicle body and retain the required suspension performances. Theoretical analysis is carried out via the Lyapunov–Krasovkii functional to prove the stability of the closed-loop system. Simulation results based on professional vehicle simulation software Carsim are provided to show the efficiency of the proposed control scheme.

This paper presents a novel proportional-integral approximation-free control (PIAFC) for nonlinear robotic systems with unknown oriolis and gravity dynamics. One key merit is to transform the original motion tracking problem into an alternative system stabilization problem by introducing prescribed performance functions (PPFs) and the associated error transformation. Another idea is to develop a proportional-integral error compensation mechanism and incorporate it into the approximation-free control synthesis, such that the tracking error converges to zero in the steady-state. In this framework, only the inertia matrix is required and the computationally demanding function approximators are avoided, while the unknown Coriolis and gravity dynamics can be effectively handled. Moreover, the transient tracking error can be retained within a preset boundary. Stability analysis of the closed-loop control system is carried out in terms of the Lyapunov theorem. Finally, extensive comparative simulations and experimental results on a realistic SCARA robotic test-rig illustrate the superiority of the suggested method over several other methods.

The Hammerstein model has proven its ability for modeling many industrial servo systems, but the corresponding parameter estimation remains as a challenging problem, especially for the purpose of achieving fast convergence. This article presents a fixed-time (FxT) adaptive parameter estimation scheme for Hammerstein systems with an asymmetric dead-zone to ensure the convergence of estimated parameters in fixed-time. A continuous piecewise linear function neural network is adopted to model the nonlinear dead-zone dynamics to remedy the use of intermediate variable. To avoid using the system state information, a K-filter is used to construct a relationship between the unknown system parameters and the input/output signals. Then, a new adaptive law based on the parameter error and the FxT scheme is developed to online estimate the lumped unknown parameters and ensure the fixed-time convergence, where an online updated auxiliary variable of regressor is suggested to eliminate the impact of the regressor on the convergence performance. Both numerical simulations and experimental results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed methods.

Rolling bearing is one of the most crucial components in rotating machinery and due to their critical role, it is of great importance to monitor their operation conditions. However, due to the background noise in acquired signals, it is not always possible to identify probable faults. Therefore, signal denoising preprocessing has become an essential part of condition monitoring and fault diagnosis. In the present study, a hybrid fault diagnosis method based on singular value difference spectrum denoising and local mean decomposition for rolling bearing is proposed. First, as a denoising preprocessing method, singular value difference spectrum denoising is applied to reduce the noise of the bearing vibration signal and improve the signal-to-noise ratio. Then, local mean decomposition method is used to decompose the denoised signals into several product functions. And product functions corresponding to the fault feature are selected according to the correlation coefficient criterion. Finally, Teager energy spectrum is analyzed by applying the Teager energy operator to the constructed amplitude modulation component. The proposed method is successfully applied to analyze the vibration signals collected from an experimental motive rolling bearing and rolling bearing of the self-made rotor experimental platform. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed singular value difference spectrum denoising and local mean decomposition method can achieve fairly or slightly better performance than the normal local mean decomposition-Teager energy operator method, fast kurtogram, and the wavelet denoising and local mean decomposition method.
Aiming at connatural limitations of extreme learning machine in practice, a new fault diagnosis method based on wavelet packet-energy entropy and fuzzy kernel extreme learning machine is proposed. On one hand, the presented method can extract the more efficient features using the wavelet packet-energy entropy method, and on the other hand, the sample fuzzy membership degree matrix U, weight matrix W which is used to describe the sample imbalance, and the kernel function are introduced to construct the fuzzy kernel extreme learning machine model with high accuracy and reliability. The experimental results of rolling bearing and check valve are obtained and analyzed in MATLAB 2010b. The results show that the proposed fuzzy kernel extreme learning machine method can obtain fairly or slightly better classification performance than the traditional extreme learning machine, kernel extreme learning machine, back propagation, support vector machine, and fuzzy support vector machine.
