Arne Astrup is a Senior Vice President at The Novo Nordisk Foundation in Denmark and leader of the Department of Obesity and Nutritional Sciences. He has been a professor and department head at the University of Copenhagen since 1990. He graduated in medicine from the University of Copenhagen in 1981 and became a Doctor of Medical Science in 1986. He was the Head of the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports at the University of Copenhagen from 2012 to 2020, and a Chief Consultant at the Unit for Clinical Nutrition Research, Bispebjerg Frederiksberg University Hospital. He was the chairman of the State Council for Nutrition from 1998 to 2003. He was awarded Knight of the Order of Dannebrog in 1999 by Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, and Knight of the First Order of Dannebrog in November 2012. He was the recipient of the International Association for the Study of Obesity 2014 Willendorf Award.
