Prof. Konstantin Balashev earned his M.Sc. in Biotechnology. (1993) and Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry (Biophysics) (1998) from Sofia University. His postdoctoral experience includes research at the University of Copenhagen’s Nanoscience Center (1998-2000), the University of Michigan (2000-2001), and Drexel University (2003-2005). He also served as a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Copenhagen (2001-2003), leading a project on enzyme reactions using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). Since 2005, he has been with Sofia University, where he is now a Full Professor of Biophysical Chemistry in the Department of Physical Chemistry, and he also holds a part-time position at the Medical University of Pleven. His research spans biophysical chemistry, soft matter, nanotechnology, and radiological biophysics, focusing on enzyme reactions, lipid bilayers, nanoparticles, and the effects of ionizing radiation on biomolecules and cellular structures. Prof. Balashev has authored 75 scientific publications and holds an h-index of 18. In 2018, he received a Fulbright scholarship, conducting research at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). His work is internationally recognized for bridging fundamental biophysical research with applied nanoscience in medical physics.
