Margherita Beruto obtained her PhD title at the University of Gent (Belgium). She has experience in the commercial ornamental industry as a specialist in micropropagation. Her research has been oriented toward the development of innovative and high-quality standard products through in vitro techniques. Studies were carried out to outline nutritional models for in vitro plant tissues through a multidisciplinary approach that considered physical, chemical, and biological aspects. She studied micropropagation protocols for different ornamental crops, including anemone, carnation, helleborus, limonium, papaver, peony, ranunculus and succulents. In the period 2009-2021, Dr. Margherita Beruto was the Director of the Regional Institute for Floriculture (IRF, www.regflor.it), Sanremo-Italy, a public research institute whose mission is to support the floriculture sector with particular attention to the achievement of novelties. In this framework, Dr. Beruto boosted the development of specialized services to support breeders and nurserymen with the initial stock of in vitro plant material. She achieved the title of part-time Professor at the Henan University of Science & Technology, Luoyang Key Laboratory of Peony Biology (China) and during her career, she established different national and international partnerships. She is the chair of the ISHS Ornamental Plant Division and Associate Editor of scientific journals, and also acts as a Guest Editor in Special Issues on Ornamentals.
