Inflammation can result in the development of breast cancer in women with overweight and obese, and also affects the outcome and prognosis of breast cancer patients, thereby decreasing the cure and survival rates of breast cancer patients. Exercise may benefit breast cancer patients as a supplement to conventional treatments. However, research on the effects of exercise on inflammatory markers in women with breast cancer who are overweight and obese remains incomplete. A systematic review and meta-analysis were used to study the effects of exercise on inflammatory markers in women with breast cancer who are overweight and obese. Literature up to May 2024 was searched from databases such as Cochrane, Embase, Pubmed, Web of Science, and EBSCO, and English-language randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that met the inclusion criteria were screened. The screening criteria were as follows (A) written in English; (B) RCT; (C) studied in women with overweight obese and breast cancer; (D) outcome measures: inflammatory markers; (E) the duration of the exercise intervention was unlimited. A total of 14 articles and 1064 participants were included. Exercise significantly reduced C-reactive protein (CRP) (MD: -0.52, 95 % CI: -0.94 to -0.11; p = 0.01; heterogeneity p < 0.1), interleukin-6 (IL-6) (MD: -0.87, 95 % CI: -1.62 to -0.11; p = 0.02; heterogeneity p < 0.1), and leptin (MD: -0.92, 95 % CI: -1.71 to -0.13; p = 0.02; heterogeneity p < 0.1) levels and exercise significantly increased adiponectin levels (MD: 0.89, 95 % CI: 0.03-1.75, p = 0.04; heterogeneity p < 0.1) but had no effect on tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) (MD: -0.26, 95 % CI: -0.82-0.29; p = 0.35; heterogeneity p < 0.1) and IL-10 (MD: 0.14, 95 % CI: -0.17-0.45; p = 0.37; heterogeneity p = 0.45) were not significant. In addition, subgroup analyses suggest that combination training (CE) may be the most recommended type of exercise to decrease pro-inflammatory markers, and increase anti-inflammatory markers in women with overweight obesity, and have breast cancer. Exercise significantly reduced CRP, IL-6, and leptin levels and overall increased adiponectin levels in women with overweight obese, and breast cancer. However, the effects on TNF-α and IL-10 levels were not significant. CE may be the most recommended type of exercise for reducing pro-inflammatory factors and increasing anti-inflammatory factors. Therefore, this study considers exercise as an effective complementary approach to managing inflammatory markers in women with breast cancer who are overweight and obese. Future researchers may consider exploring the combined effects of exercise and dietary control, weight loss, and other factors, and formulate a comprehensive treatment plan accordingly.

This study aimed to compare the effects of two 12-week training intervention experimental ball games combined with standard behavioral rehabilitation against a control group solely utilizing standard behavioral rehabilitation on social communication impairments (SCI) in preschool children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). A multi-arm controlled study design was implemented, involving 41 children diagnosed with ASD (mean age: 4.99 ± 0.76 years). 41 participants were randomized assigned to two experimental groups and a control group, The experimental group carried out ball combination training program group (BCTP) and mini-basketball training program group (MBTP) on the basis of routine behavioral rehabilitation, which underwent 12-week training interventions 5 times a week. The control group (n = 14) received only standard behavioral rehabilitation. Evaluations were conducted before and after interventions using the Social Responsiveness Scale, Second Edition (SRS-2). The results suggest that both 12-week interventions, BCTP, and MBTP, led to significant improvements in social communication impairment among children with ASD (p < 0.05). Despite enhancing the overall scores on the SRS-2, these interventions displayed varying impacts across different sub-dimensions. BCTP primarily exhibited significant enhancements in social awareness and behavior pattern (p < 0.05), whereas MBTP significantly improved social cognition and social communication (p < 0.05). Both interventions showed slight improvements in social motivation. The utilization of recreational ball games has showed to be effective in decreasing the impairment levels of children with ASD, while the control group experienced a worsening of outcomes. This suggests that irrespective of the specific ball game strategy employed, both can be employed on a weekly basis to complement standard behavioral rehabilitation and enhance the ability to improve the quality of life for children diagnosed with ASD. The trial is retrospectively registered on the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR1900024973;August 5, 2019).

This study investigated arsenic trioxide (As2O3), cisplatin (DDP) and etoposide (Vp16) on the anticancer effects and P-glycoprotein (P-gp) expression in neuroblastoma (NB) SK-N-SH cells. The potential influence of As2O3, DDP and Vp16 currently included in NB routine treatment protocols on cytotoxicity in SK-N-SH cells was measured by flow cytometry and drug half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) was established. Moreover, chemotherapeutic agent-mediated changes of cellular expression levels of resistant-related P-gp, was monitored using western blotting. The data showed that As2O3, DDP and Vp16 significantly inhibited the growth and survival of the SK-N-SH cells at different concentration. Notably, the levels of apoptosis were upregulated in SK-N-SH cells with an acceleration of the exposure time and the concentration of As2O3, DDP and Vp16. As2O3, DDP and Vp16 were observed with their IC50 values on SK-N-SH cells being 3 µM, 8 and 100 µg/ml, respectively. Flow cytometry analysis showed that As2O3 at low concentrations in SK-N-SH cells led to enhanced accumulation of cell populations in G2/M phase with increasing the exposure time, and increased levels of apoptosis. In contrast, we observed that SK-N-SH cell populations arrested in S phase by DDP and Vp16. In vitro examination revealed that following pretreatment of SK-N-SH cells with As2O3, the expression of P-gp was not increased. The expression of P-gp downregulation were noted following the group treated by As2O3 at 2 and 3 µM. Exposed to As2O3 at 3 µM for 72 h, SK-N-SH cells exhibited lower expression of P-gp than 2 µM As2O3 for 72 h. In contrast, the expression of P-gp was upregulated by DDP and VP16. In summary, SK-N-SH cells were responsive to chemotherapeutic agent-induced apoptosis in a dose-dependent and time-dependent manner. In particular, ours findings showed that low dose of As2O3 markedly reduced the P-gp expression and increased apoptotic cell death in human NB cell line.

Aerobic fitness is a critical aspect of overall health and well-being, essential for maintaining a high quality of life. Unfortunately, sedentary behavior has been on the rise among young adults, and this has had a negative impact on their aerobic fitness levels. Therefore, it is crucial to identify enjoyable physical exercise training programs that can play a pivotal role in improving aerobic fitness. The objective of this study was to systematically review the experimental studies concerning the impact of small-sided games (SSGs) training programs, implemented across various team sports, on the enhancement of aerobic fitness in a youth sedentary population. A literature search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and the Web of Science on August 01, 2023. Our eligibility criteria focused on studies involving sedentary youth populations (aged <18 years) as the target population. These studies needed to incorporate interventions based on SSGs as the intervention of interest, comparing them to passive or control groups as the comparator. The primary outcomes of interest were related to maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max), assessed either directly or indirectly, or the results of field-based cardiorespiratory tests. We specifically considered two- or multi-arm randomized controlled studies as the study design of interest. Out of the initial pool of 1980 studies, we reviewed 38 full-text articles, ultimately selecting and analyzing 13 studies for inclusion in our review. Among the studies included, a total of 1281 participants were enrolled in SSG-based interventions, while 744 participants acted as part of the control groups. Regarding the impact on VO2max, the six studies that investigated this outcome showed varying improvements, ranging from 2.2 % to 31.3 % when participants were exposed to SSGs. In terms of the outcome related to endurance performance in field-based tests, the eight studies that examined this aspect found that participants exposed to SSGs showed improvements ranging from 0.1 % to 79.8 %. In conclusion, this systematic review suggests that SSG-based interventions conducted among sedentary youth populations can play a positive role in improving their aerobic fitness. This improvement in aerobic fitness can have potential positive impacts on their overall health and quality of life.

This meta-analysis aims to systematically evaluate if different physical activities (PA) improve the social communication impairments (SCI) seen in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). For this meta-analysis, five databases (Web of Science, PubMed and Cochrane Library database in English, and CNKI and Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform in Chinese) were searched from database inception to September 11, 2024. The eligibility criteria included (1) study population comprised children with ASD, with no gender restriction; (2) experimental group consisted of a PA intervention; (3) control group consisted of nonPA interventions or routine activities; (4) outcomes were assessed using validated SCI scales (e.g., social cognition, social motivation, and/or social awareness); and (5) study design involved a randomized parallel group design. The quality of the evidence for each study was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool. From a pool of 2714 potentially relevant articles, 17 were eligible for inclusion in this review. The results of overall response of PA intervention to SCI illustrated a Medium degree of statistical heterogeneity between studies (I2 = 53.3 %, p < 0.01); the effect size of PA intervention on SCI (expressed as standardized mean difference) was −0.34 (95 % CI: −0.57, −0.11), which was statistically significant. SCI of autistic children could be potentially improved by PA interventions, though further research is needed to clarify if benefits achieve clinical significance in addition to statistical significance. Proper design of PA interventions (45–90 min per session, more than 3 times per week and for 8–12 weeks) may enhance their effectiveness in treating SCI in children with ASD.
