Prof. Dr. Hernández Rivas is a senior staff member, subdirector, and professor at the Department of Medicine, University of Salamanca. He leads the Molecular Cytogenetics Research Groups at the Instituto de Estudios de Ciencias de la Salud de Castilla y León (IECSCYL-IBSAL) and the Cancer Research Centre (CIC). With 315 published articles, 54 research projects, and 26 supervised doctoral theses, he has made significant contributions to molecular cytogenetics. He has participated in international research collaborations, including IRON, ELAN, and NGS-PTL, and led the HARMONY Alliance, focusing on Big Data for hematologic malignancies. He coordinated both the HARMONY (2017-2023) and HARMONY PLUS (2021-2023) projects. Since 2019, he has also directed the SYNtherapy, NEMHESYS, and BD4HEALTH projects, focusing on personalized therapies, NGS education, and Big Data in healthcare. An active member of professional societies like SEHH, ASHG, EHA, and ASH, he has also served on various scientific boards. Prof. Dr. Hernández Rivas’ group works on the molecular characterization of tumoral cells from hematological malignancies (CLL, ALL, MDS), the application of CRISPR/Cas9 in the study of blood disorders, and the integration of genomic high-throughput technologies for the study of cancer, emphasizing Big Data analysis, NGS technologies, and the development of personalized therapies for blood cancers.
