Biography

Dr. Laia Caja is a senior researcher in medical biochemistry and microbiology at Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden. She earned her bachelor's and doctoral degrees at the University of Barcelona, in 2004 and 2010, respectively. Her research has focused on TGF-beta signaling in glioblastoma and hepatocellular carcinoma, dissecting the role of NADPH oxidase (NOX)4 downstream of TGF-beta. Her laboratory studies how NOX protein-derived ROS regulates glioblastoma tumorigenesis, cancer stem cell properties, and whether they could be a potential therapeutic target for glioblastoma treatment. Moreover, she also studies how glioblastoma and hepatocellular carcinoma cells adapt to nutrient starvation.
