Yi Zhun Zhu earned an M.D./Ph.D. from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Heidelberg, Germany, in 1995. He is now the Chair Professor of Pharmacology, dean of the School of Pharmacy, and associate vice president of Macau University of Science and Technology. His work focuses on drug development, especially for the heart and brain. The original research of motherwort (transferred to an enterprise for RMB 150 million) received two clinical approvals for CFDA as a novel candidate drug and started clinical phase II trials. A phase I clinical trial, as first-in-class, will be started in the US as well with the final approval by the FDA. He received an award at the 22nd Moscow ‘Archimedes’ International Invention Gold Award, Shanghai Magnolia Honor Award (the highest award), Second Prize of the Macao Natural Science. His research interests include cardiovascular and cerebrovascular, inflammatory immune mechanism and anti-aging.
