Anahtar Kelimeler: Bartın Irmağı, Su Kirliliği, pH, İletkenlik, Çözünmüş Oksijen In this study, the determination of the changes that occurred physical water quality in Bartın River was studied. For this purpose, temperature, pH, conductivity and dissolved oxygen parameters were monitored between December 2012- December 2013 for 12 months. At the end of the measurements, throughout the year temperatures, pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen values were varied in the range of 7.5-26.4 oC, 7.3 -8.5, 535 - 735 μs/cm, 4.98 - 8.92 mg/L, respectively. As evaluated the obtained results, it was found out that Bartin River replaced in water quality class II and III based on the Water Pollution Control Ordinance Inland Water Resources Quality Value.
In this study, the variation in chromium (Cr) and cadmium (Cd) concentrations in peppers, tomatoes, corn, eggplants, and cucumbers grown adjacent to the industrial area in Düzce, one of Europe’s most polluted cities and known for its high levels of potential toxic element (PTE) pollution, was determined based on species and organ. In addition, the concentrations of these elements in the soil were determined, and the translocation factor (TF) and bioconcentration factor (BCF) in the plant organs were calculated. The study found that Cr pollution, in particular, was well above threshold values in the region and accumulated to high concentrations in all plant organs, including fruits. The study found that soil Cr concentrations were well above the limit values set by international organizations. Cd concentrations in fruits ranged from 0.22 mg/kg to 0.33 mg/kg. Based on these results, Cd concentrations in all species exceed the limit values set by international standards by more than twice. The Cr concentration determined in fruits in the study ranged from 178.47 mg/kg to 579.80 mg/kg. According to these values, the Cr concentration determined in fruits is hundreds of times higher than the limit value in all species. TF values were high for Cd in tomato fruits and Cr in pepper and cucumber fruits. In contrast, TF values for both Cd and Cr were very low in corn fruits. Based on these results, cultivating crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers should be avoided in the region, and corn should be emphasized. Thus, the rate of Cr and Cd entering the human body through the food chain can be reduced.
Heavy metals are among the most hazardous pollutants to human health and can be particularly harmful when inhaled or ingested. Therefore, the concentrations of heavy metals in fruits and vegetables grown in regions with high levels of heavy metal pollution should be carefully examined. This study investigated the variation in aluminum (Al), nickel (Ni), and zinc (Zn) concentrations by species and organ in tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, and corn grown near the industrial zone in Düzce, a heavily polluted city in Europe. We determined bioconcentration factors (BCFs) and translocation factors (TFs) in plant organs and assessed the health risk through the Target Hazard Quotient (THQ) and Hazard Index (HI). The results show that Al pollution in the region significantly exceeded the World Health Organization (WHO) and European Union (EU) limit values, and accumulated in all plant organs, including fruits. Furthermore, high levels of metals were translocated from the soil into the organs of peppers and tomatoes. The HI indicated a potential non-carcinogenic health risk (HI > 1) from the consumption of tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers, primarily driven by Ni. Based on these results, it is recommended that local authorities address Al pollution in the region, avoiding the cultivation of tomatoes and peppers and instead cultivating corn and eggplant. We also observed that Zn levels were very high in the aerial parts of the plants, reaching up to 90% compared to Ni and Al. This study underscores the need to reduce Zn absorption rates, as dietary intake can pose a significant threat to human health.

The aim of this work was to investigate the adsorption potential of Uludag fir (Abies nordmanniana subsp. bornmülleriana Mattf.) on cadmium removal using batch experiments. The effect of parameters such as initial metal concentration, initial pH, biosorbent dosage, stirring speed, contact time and temperature was examined. The Langmuir and Freundlich models were applied to describe the equilibrium isotherms, and the biosorption process followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherms model with high coefficients of correlation at different temperatures. The kinetics of the sorption were analysed using the pseudo first-order and pseudo second-order kinetic models. The pseudo second-order kinetic model fit well in correlation with the experimental results. Moreover, the evaluated thermodynamic parameters (ΔG0, ΔH0, ΔS0) showed that the sorption process was feasible, spontaneous and endothermic in nature. This study showed that Uludag fir (Abies nordmanniana subsp. bornmülleriana Mattf.) can be used as an effective and ecologically friendly biosorbent for removal of Cd(II) from aqueous solutions.

Bu çalışmada, Bartın Üniversitesi Kutlubey Yerleşkesi’ndeki 200 m³ gün⁻¹ kapasiteli biyolojik paket Atıksu Arıtma Tesisi (AAT) girişinden alınan evsel nitelikli atıksuların karakterizasyonu yapılmış ve söz konusu atıksuların biyolojik olarak arıtılabilirliği tam-karışımlı kesikli biyoreaktör (BR) sistemiyle araştırılmıştır. Çalışmanın amacı, küçük ölçekli kampüs atıksularının aerobik koşullarda giderim performansını değerlendirmek ve biyolojik arıtma sürecine ait temel kinetik parametreleri ortaya koymaktır. Aşı kültürü olarak mevcut AAT’den alınan aktif çamur kullanılmış; reaktöre dört farklı giriş KOİ konsantrasyonunda (100, 150, 170, 200 mg L⁻¹) besleme yapılarak KOİ, MLSS, çözünmüş oksijen ve pH günlük izlenmiştir. KOİ giderim verimi %70–87 aralığında gerçekleşmiş ve mikrobiyal kinetiğin Monod modeline uyduğu belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen kinetik sabitler maksimum özgül büyüme hızı (μmax) 0,159 sa⁻¹ ve yarı doygunluk sabiti (Ks) 65 mg L⁻¹ olup literatürdeki kampüs ölçekli değerlerle uyumludur. BR tasarımının, mevcut sürekli havalandırmalı paket tesise göre özgül enerji tüketimini yaklaşık %69 azaltma potansiyeline sahip olduğu hesaplanmıştır. Hesaplanan kinetik parametreler ve enerji verimliliği analizi, Türkiye'deki küçük ölçekli (
