High spatial quality (HQ) optical remote sensing images are very useful for target detection, target recognition and image classification. Due to the influence of imaging equipment accuracy and atmospheric environment, HQ images are difficult to acquire, while low spatial quality (LQ) remote sensing images are very easy to acquire. Hence, denoising and super-resolution (SR) reconstruction technology are the most important solutions to improve the quality of remote sensing images very effectively, which can lower the cost as much as possible. Most existing methods usually only employ denoising or SR technology to obtain HQ images. However, due to the complex structure and the large noise of remote sensing images, the quality of the remote sensing image obtained only by denoising method or SR method cannot meet the actual needs. To address these problems, a method of reconstructing HQ remote sensing images based on Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) named “Restoration Generative Adversarial Network with ResNet and DenseNet” (RRDGAN) is proposed, which can acquire better quality images by incorporating denoising and SR into a unified framework. The generative network is implemented by fusing Residual Neural Network (ResNet) and Dense Convolutional Network (DenseNet) in order to consider denoising and SR problems at the same time. Then, total variation (TV) regularization is used to furthermore enhance the edge details, and the idea of Relativistic GAN is explored to make the whole network converge better. Our RRDGAN is implemented in wavelet transform (WT) domain, since different frequency parts could be handled separately in the wavelet domain. The experimental results on three different remote sensing datasets shows the feasibility of our proposed method in acquiring remote sensing images.

The pointing and tracking performance of laser beams in free space optical communication (FSOC) systems and other precision laser systems is severely limited by beam jitter. This research proposes an adaptive control method to suppress beam jitter by adjusting the deflection angle of the beam by controlling the fast steering mirror (FSM) driven by piezoelectric ceramics. In order to verify the effectiveness of the control method, we have established an experimental platform. First, the internal controller of the FSM is adjusted to an approximately linear system, aiming to turn the input and output control signals into a linear relationship. Based on the adaptive filter, a filtered-x variable step-size normalized least mean square (FxVSNLMS) algorithm is proposed. To further improve the robustness of the controller, a Proportion Integral Differential (PID) controller and an adaptive controller which work in parallel are then added to the control loop. Finally, experimental results are provided and compare with the traditional controller and other adaptive control methods. Experimental results show that for more complex narrow-band and broad-band mixed beam disturbances, the control scheme developed in this research is significantly improved. This conclusion has also been verified on the ground experimental platform of FSOC.

This paper studies global nonsingular fixed-time terminal sliding mode control (GNFTSMC) for a second-order uncertain permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) system to further improve its speed tracking performance. The newly proposed GNFTSMC consists of a time-dependent terminal sliding surface and a piecewise continuous sliding mode control law. By a time-dependent function constructed from the initial conditions of the system and a predefined time, the sliding surface is always reached at the initial instant and forced to a traditional fast terminal sliding surface after the predefined time. Based on Filippov’s stability principles, the globally fixed-time stability of the GNFTSMC is proved. Furthermore, a priori time independent of the initial conditions is derived to estimate the boundary of the settling time of the closed control loop. Then, the control law is analyzed to be always nonsingular. Thus, the GNFTSMC-based speed controller for the PMSM speed tracking system is developed. Finally, simulations are conducted for the proposed controller and other terminal sliding mode controllers. The results show that compared to the other controllers, the PMSM system based on GNFTSMC displays improved performance characteristics of faster speed response, smaller chattering and higher current efficiency.

In a free space optical communication system, the beacon light will lose most of its energy after long-distance transmission, and the background light from the universe will strongly interfere with it. The four-quadrant detector (4QD) has been widely used in optical communication systems as a high-precision spot position detection sensor. However, if the light signal falling on the 4QD is too weak, the electrical signal of the output position will be very weak, and it will easily be affected by or even submerged in noise. To solve this problem, we propose a method for improving the spot position detection accuracy. First, we analyzed the solution relationship between the actual position of the spot and the output signal of the 4QD, with a Gaussian spot as the incident light model. The output current signal of the detector was then transimpedance-amplified by an analog circuit and the output voltage signal with noise was digitally filtered. An error compensation factor and the gap size of the detector were introduced into the traditional spot position detection model. High-precision spot position information for the 4QD in a complex environment was then obtained using the improved spot position detection model. Experimental results show that the maximum spot position detection error for this method was only 0.0277 mm, and the root mean square error was 0.0065 mm, when the 4QD was in a high background noise environment. The spot position detection accuracy was significantly improved compared with traditional detection algorithms. Real-time detection can therefore be achieved in practical applications.

Fourier transform imaging spectrometers (FTISs) are widely used in global hyperspectral remote sensing due to the advantages of high stability, high throughput, and high spectral resolution. Spectrum reconstruction (SpecR) is a classic problem of FTISs determining the acquired data quality and application potential. However, the state-of-the-art SpecR algorithms were restricted by the length of maximum optical path difference (MOPD) of FTISs and apodization processing, resulting in a decrease in spectral resolution; thus, the applications of FTISs were limited. In this study, a deep learning SpecR method, which directly learned an end-to-end mapping between the interference/spectrum information with limited MOPD and without apodization processing, was proposed. The mapping was represented as a fully connected U-Net (FCUN) that takes the interference fringes as the input and outputs the highly precise spectral curves. We trained the proposed FCUN model using the real spectra and simulated pulse spectra, as well as the corresponding simulated interference curves, and achieved good results. Additionally, the performance of the proposed FCUN on real interference and spectral datasets was explored. The FCUN could obtain similar spectral values compared with the state-of-the-art fast Fourier transform (FFT)-based method with only 150 and 200 points in the interferograms. The proposed method could be able to enhance the resolution of the reconstructed spectra in the case of insufficient MOPD. Moreover, the FCUN performed well in visual quality using noisy interferograms and gained nearly 70% to 80% relative improvement over FFT for the coefficient of mean relative error (MRE). All the results based on simulated and real satellite datasets showed that the reconstructed spectra of the FCUN were more consistent with the ideal spectrum compared with that of the traditional method, with higher PSNR and lower values of spectral angle (SA) and relative spectral quadratic error (RQE).

The quadrant detector (QD), has developed into a core detector in the free space optical communication system. The light power received by the detector surface will be very weak after long distance transmission of laser, it brings great challenges to the high precision spot position detection of the detector. Therefore, this letter proposes a method to improve the spot position detection accuracy of the QD through artificial neural network. The neural network can solve the impact of multiple different factors on the detection accuracy of the detector at one time, which can save a lot of time and cost. Moreover, the test results of the detection accuracy of the network show that the neural network has significantly improved the detection accuracy of the spot position of the QD.
