Dr. McIntosh is interested in the neurobiology of CNS disorders. His work is focused on the study of receptor and ion channel pharmacology. His current work is focused on the development and application of peptides targeted to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. These peptides, derived from conotoxins, are highly selective and serve as novel probes for understanding the roles of nicotinic receptors in health and disease. The development of novel therapeutic agents is one ultimate end point.
