Professor Volpato holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (1990) and a Master's in Mechanical Engineering (1993) from the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, with a specialization in CNC machining and CAD/CAM. He completed his Ph.D. (2001) at the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds, England, where his research focused on metal Additive Manufacturing (AM) using Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) applied to tooling.
His current research centers on the development of AM technologies (software, hardware, and materials), with a particular emphasis on AM process planning systems (RP3 software), AM applications in tooling, and the fabrication of porous media and synthetic core samples.
He has authored over 40 scientific articles in internationally recognized journals and is the editor and author of three books on AM/3D printing published in Portuguese.
