Prof. Dr. Sun Jie, PhD, is a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor who has been teaching at the College of Agriculture, Shihezi University, since his undergraduate graduation in 1991. He received his Master's degree in 1997 and has also completed a PhD. He is mainly engaged in gene mining and the utilization of important agronomic traits in cotton, the creation of new germplasms, and the selection and breeding of new varieties of cotton. He has completed more than 30 national and provincial and ministerial scientific research projects; published more than 70 SCI papers in important journals; been granted eight national invention patents, four utility model patents, and four software copyrights; and released one standard. He has won awards including the second prize for the National Teaching Achievement award; second prize for the autonomous region's scientific and technological progress award; second prize for the autonomous region's patent award; and third prize for the Corps of Scientific and Technological Progress. He has developed and cultivated six new cotton varieties, and has transformed scientific and technological funding of CNY 2 million into the popularization and planting of new varieties over more than 20 million acres, yielding economic benefits of more than CNY 3.
