He received his Master Degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Cagliari in 1991 and his PhD degree in Metallurgical Engineering at the Polytechnic of Torino in 1997. He became Assistant Professor in 1998, Associate Professor in 2002 and Full Professor in 2014.
Principal research interests are the synthesis and sintering of advanced materials and chemical reaction engineering. Since 1995, in Italy and USA (University of California, Davis), he has been mainly involved in the investigation of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS), Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) and Ball Milling (BM) processes from both the theoretical and the experimental points of view.
His experience in the field of SPS processes has led to the publication in 2009 of a review paper on this subject in Materials Science and Engineering Report R (I.F. 12.217). So far, this paper has received more than 930 citations (Scopus, February 2021).
His scientific activity in this and other topics is documented by more than 120 papers published in peer-reviewed journals, 9 patents, books, book chapters, and over 170 presentations at national and international conferences.
His current H-index is 30 (Scopus, February 2021).
He is Editorial Board Member of “Coatings”, “Eurasian Chemico-Technological Journal”, “Journal of Powder Metallurgy and Functional Coatings”.
