Dr. Filippos (Phil) A. Aravanopoulos, is Professor of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a Full Member of the Hellenic Agricultural Academy. His background includes Forest and Environmental Science (B.Sc., Thessaloniki) and Tree Genetics (Ph.D/Toronto), as well as postdoctoral research. His research has been funded by the EU, IEA, NSERC, GSRT, etc. He has served as the Chairman of the Scientific Council of NAGREF/HAO in Greece, overseeing scientific research, research staff recruitment and promotions for 30 research institutes that focus on agriculture, forestry, fisheries and veterinary science. Prof. Aravanopoulos serves as the Chair of the Hellenic Scientific Society for Plant Genetics and Breeding for a 2nd term. He is the Deputy Coordinator of the Population, Ecological and Conservation Genetics Unit of IUFRO. He serves as an EB Member or reviewer for more than 40 international journals. He has published over 240 full research papers, of which 120 have been in international peer-reviewed journals and over 50 in refereed international books and international proceedings. He edited the book «Genetics and Genomics of Forest Trees», MDPI Press, https://www.mdpi.com/books/pdfview/book/869.
