This article describes a comparative study of the tack properties of a model acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) crosslinked using aluminum acetylacetonate on several substrates, including stainless steel, glass, polyethylene, polypropylene, polytetrafluoroethylene, polycarbonate, and poly(methyl methacrylate). The tack measurements were conducted using a technique commonly used to measure the tack of an adhesive tape in the PSA industries. The surface free energy (SFE) values of the materials were evaluated using the Owens–Wendt and van Oss–Chaudhury–Good methods. The experiments showed a clear relationship between the SFE of the substrate and the tack of the model acrylic PSA. In general, larger differences between the SFE values of the substrate and adhesive (ΔSFE) were correlated with greater tack values. The tack of the model acrylic PSA was found to be optimal over the ΔSFE range of 7.0–13.1 mJ/m2. The trend in the tack as a function of the SFE difference was attributed to the quantity of energy dissipated at the jointed points during the separation stage in the loop tack test.

New binuclear complexes of La(III), Nd(III), Sm(III), Eu(III), Gd(III) and Tb(III) ions with mefenamic acid were obtained in solid phase. For all compounds considered, complexation occurs at pH 6–6.5. The analyzed complexes were characterized on the basis of chemical and elemental analyses, molar conductance, UV–Vis, IR and 1H NMR spectroscopies as well as thermoanalytical techniques. According to the research results, the molecular formula of the complexes is Ln2(C15H14NO2)3(OH)3×nH2O, with the exception of the La(III) complex which has the formula La2(C15H14NO2)5(OH). The results show that only the carboxyl group is involved in the coordination of the rare earth ions in the bidentate mode. Coordination does not occur through the nitrogen atom. All the complexes are soluble in DMSO, and they are nonelectrolytes. The TG-FTIR technique was employed in order to study a decomposition pathway of the obtained compounds. The received results provide information on the composition, thermal stability, thermal decomposition, as well as the gaseous products that evolved during the thermal decomposition of the considered compounds.
A new thiazolylazo reagent 1-[(5-benzyl-1,3-thiazol-2-yl)diazenyl]naphthalene-2-ol has been synthesized via arylation of acrolein and further diazotization and diazocoupling with 2-naphthol. The chemical structure of the compound was confirmed by IR, NMR: 1H, 13C, COSY, HSQC and SALDI-MS spectral data. The DSC method was employed to determine the melting point and the enthalpy of fusion (Tfus = 159.7 °C and ΔHfus = 28.0 kJ mol−1, respectively). Thermal stability and decomposition studies of the obtained azo dye were performed in air and nitrogen atmosphere using the TG technique. The evolved gases from the heated sample were registered on FTIR spectra. The decomposition of the azo dye in air atmosphere occurred in five consecutive stages. The pKa ionization constants of the substance were determined in ethanol–water mixture (1:1 v/v) by means of the spectroscopic method and were found to be equal to 0.41 for pKa1 and 9.59 for pKa2. Using the spectrophotometric procedures, the methods for determination of trace amounts of toxic metallic ions with the new reagent were characterized and limits of detection were calculated.
