Salt is a potent abiotic stress that arrests plant growth by impairing their physio-biochemical and molecular processes. However, it is unknown how the ABA signaling system and vacuolar-type Na+/H+ antiporter proteins induce stress tolerance in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) seedlings. The present study aimed to identify salt-responsive proteins and signaling pathways involved in the resistance of wheat to salt stress. We explored the proteome profile, 20 amino acids, 14 carbohydrates, 8 major phytohormones, ion content, and salt tolerance genes in wheat (Triticum aestivum L., cv.) under 200 mM NaCl with control plants for six days. The results showed that amino acids such as alanine, serine, proline, glutamine, and aspartic acid were highly expressed under salt stress compared with control plants, suggesting that amino acids are the main players in salinity tolerance. The ABA signaling system was activated in response to salinity stress through the modulation of protein phosphatase 2C (PP2C) and ABA-responsive element binding factor (ABF), resulting in an ABA-mediated downstream response. Additionally, the vacuolar-type Na+/H+ antiporter was identified as a key protein in salt stress tolerance via compartmentalizing Na+ in the vacuole. Furthermore, a significant increase in the abundance of the 14-3-3 protein was noticed in salt-fed plants, suggesting that this protein plays an important role in Na+ compartmentalization. Moreover, up-regulation of ascorbate peroxidase (APX), glutathione-S-transferase (GST), and thioredoxin-scavenged reactive oxygen species resulted in improved plant growth under salt stress. These data will help to identify salt-responsive proteins that can be used in future breeding programs to develop salt-tolerant varieties.

In this study, we investigated and evaluated the mineralization pattern of ion-adsorption rare earth deposits in granite weathering crusts using remote sensing technology for the southeastern region of Guangxi, and we proposed a strategy for sustainable mining and utilization. Through detailed analysis of the stratification characteristics, mineralogical features, and rare earth element (REE) distribution patterns of the weathering crust, it is found that the rare earth minerals are mainly enriched in the completely weathered layers, with light rare earth elements (La, Ce, Pr, Nd) dominating. This study reveals the transformation mechanism of rocks and minerals during the weathering process, especially the important role of kaolinite, feldspar, and smectite in the enrichment of rare earth elements. Combined with remote sensing image analysis, the intrinsic connection between linear tectonics and mineralization is explored, and potential directions for sustainable exploration are proposed. This study deepens the understanding of the mineralization mechanism of rare earth deposits in the region and provides scientific basis and technical support for the sustainable exploration and development of rare earth resources, and it has important economic and environmental significance.

The Azigan Formation and the Lower Member of the Tahaqi Formation, dating to the Late Pennsylvanian, are pivotal exploration targets within the Tarim Basin. This region exhibits extensive siliciclastic-carbonate mixed sediments. However, the lack of high-resolution sequence stratigraphic frameworks significantly limits advanced petroleum geological research. Using principles of sequence stratigraphy and cyclostratigraphy and leveraging outcrop and thin section data alongside GR series analysis, this study systematically investigates the lithological, cyclic, and sequence stratigraphic characteristics of these formations. A total of 12 different lithofacies were identified, and 3 third-order sequences, 15 fourth-order sequences, and 16 long eccentricity cycles were delineated. A 1.2 Ma long slope signal was also identified. An astronomical timescale was established with 298.9 Ma as the anchor, defining the boundary between the upper and lower members of the Tahaqi Formation, revealing a link between long eccentricity cycles and the formation of fourth-order sequences. Moreover, the relationship between the 1.2 Ma long obliquity cycle and third-order sequences, as well as its role in driving sea-level changes in southwestern Tarim, is explored. The interplay between long obliquity and eccentricity cycles influenced the region’s mixed siliceous clastic and carbonate deposition. Warm and humid climatic conditions coupled with sea-level rise enhanced the input and transport of clastic materials, facilitating large-scale mixed sedimentation.

Cadmium (Cd) ions can significantly affect plant growth and development. They promote plant growth up to a certain concentration, but high concentrations may inhibit normal plant growth. However, Cd pollution also threatens ecosystem security and may pose a potential risk to human health. Bioremediation has received significant attention as a method for reducing soil pollution, including Cd contamination. Therefore, this study evaluated the phytoremediation potential of Bougainvillea spectabilis Willd. (Triangle plum), Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn (Safflower), and Cuphea ignea (Cigar flower) in Cd-contaminated soil that simulated the conditions found in mine tailings ponds. The results indicated that there were significant differences in Cd ion accumulation among the three flowering shrubs. Triangle plum had the greatest enrichment ability, followed by Cigar flower and then Safflower. Triangle plum leaves showed the greatest enrichment ability, followed by the stems and roots. In contrast, the Cigar flower roots showed the greatest enrichment ability followed by the leaves and the stems. However, their translocation factor (TF) values were similar. The enrichment effect of Safflower leaves was the strongest, followed by its roots, with relatively little accumulation in its stems, and its TF value varied within a certain range. This study provides a scientific basis for the bioremediation of soil Cd pollution and new information about the abilities of different flowering shrubs and their parts to accumulate Cd.
