The accelerating global demand for sustainable and efficient energy storage has driven substantial interest in supercapacitor technology due to its superior power density, fast charge–discharge capability, and long cycle life. However, the low energy density of supercapacitors remains a key bottleneck, limiting their broader application. This review provides a comprehensive and focused overview of the latest breakthroughs in supercapacitor research, emphasizing strategies to overcome this limitation through advanced material engineering and device design. We explore cutting-edge developments in electrode materials, including carbon-based nanostructures, metal oxides, redox-active polymers, and emerging frameworks such as metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs). These materials offer high surface area, tunable porosity, and enhanced conductivity, which collectively improve the electrochemical performance. Additionally, recent advances in electrolyte systems—ranging from aqueous to ionic liquids and organic electrolytes—are critically assessed for their role in expanding the operating voltage window and enhancing device stability. The review also highlights innovations in device architectures, such as hybrid, asymmetric, and flexible supercapacitor configurations, that contribute to the simultaneous improvement of energy and power densities. We identify persistent challenges in scaling up nanomaterial synthesis, maintaining long-term operational stability, and integrating materials into practical energy systems. By synthesizing these state-of-the-art advancements, this review outlines a roadmap for next-generation supercapacitors and presents novel perspectives on the synergistic integration of materials, electrolytes, and device engineering. These insights aim to guide future research toward realizing high-energy, high-efficiency, and scalable supercapacitor systems suitable for applications in electric vehicles, renewable energy storage, and next-generation portable electronics.

This review article provides a comprehensive overview of the pivotal role that nanomaterials, particularly graphene and its derivatives, play in advancing hydrogen energy technologies, with a focus on storage, production, and transport. As the quest for sustainable energy solutions intensifies, the use of nanoscale materials to store hydrogen in solid form emerges as a promising strategy toward mitigate challenges related to traditional storage methods. We begin by summarizing standard methods for producing modified graphene derivatives at the nanoscale and their impact on structural characteristics and properties. The article highlights recent advancements in hydrogen storage capacities achieved through innovative nanocomposite architectures, for example, multi-level porous graphene structures containing embedded nickel particles at nanoscale dimensions. The discussion covers the distinctive characteristics of these nanomaterials, particularly their expansive surface area and the hydrogen spillover effect, which enhance their effectiveness in energy storage applications, including supercapacitors and batteries. In addition to storage capabilities, this review explores the role of nanomaterials as efficient catalysts in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), emphasizing the potential of metal oxides and other composites to boost hydrogen production. The integration of nanomaterials in hydrogen transport systems is also examined, showcasing innovations that enhance safety and efficiency. As we move toward a hydrogen economy, the review underscores the urgent need for continued research aimed at optimizing existing materials and developing novel nanostructured systems. Addressing the primary challenges and potential future directions, this article aims to serve as a roadmap to enable scientists and industry experts to maximize the capabilities of nanomaterials for transforming hydrogen-based energy systems, thus contributing significantly to global sustainability efforts.

Fe–Pd magnetic shape-memory alloys are of major importance for microsystem applications due to their magnetically driven large reversible strains under moderate stresses. In this context, we focus on the synthesis of nanostructured Fe70Pd30 shape-memory alloy antidot array thin films with different layer thicknesses in the range from 20 nm to 80 nm, deposited onto nanostructured alumina membranes. A significant change in the magnetization process of nanostructured samples was detected by varying the layer thickness. The in-plane coercivity for the antidot array samples increased with decreasing layer thickness, whereas for non-patterned films the coercive field decreased. Anomalous coercivity dependence with temperature was detected for thinner antidot array samples, observing a critical temperature at which the in-plane coercivity behavior changed. A significant reduction in the Curie temperature for antidot samples with thinner layer thicknesses was observed. We attribute these effects to complex magnetization reversal processes and the three-dimensional magnetization profile induced by the nanoholes. These findings could be of major interest in the development of novel magnetic sensors and thermo-magnetic recording patterned media based on template-assisted deposition techniques.

Development of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy thin films is a requisite for many applications. In this work, we have illustrated the enhancement of the PMA of Hard (Co)/Soft (Permalloy, Py) ferromagnetic bilayers by depositing them onto nanoporous anodic alumina membranes with different hole diameters varying in the range between 30 nm and 95 nm. A dramatic change in the hysteresis loops behaviour with hole size, D , and magnetic surface cover ratio parameters has been observed: (1) for samples with small antidot hole diameters, the in-plane (INP) hysteresis loops show single-step magnetic behaviour; (2) for D = 75 nm, the hysteresis loops of Co/Py and Py samples exhibit a multistep magnetic behaviour; (3) a decreasing coercivity in the INP hysteresis loops for antidot arrays samples with D > 75 nm has been detected as a consequence of the reduction of the INP magnetic anisotropy and the rising of the out-of-plane component. A crossover of the magnetic anisotropy from the INP to out-of-plane for bilayer antidot samples has been observed for Co/Py ferromagnetic bilayers, favoured by the interfacial exchange coupling between the two ferromagnetic materials. These findings can be of high interest for the development of novel magnetic sensors and for perpendicular-magnetic recording patterned media based on template-assisted deposition techniques.

We used the Taylor–Ulitovsky technique to prepare nanocrystalline Co2MnGe Heusler alloy glass-coated microwires with a metallic nucleus diameter of 18 ± 0.1 µm and a total diameter of 27.2 ± 0.1 µm. Magnetic and structural studies were carried out to determine the fundamental magneto-structural characteristics of Co2MnGe glass-coated microwires. XRD revealed a well-defined nanocrystalline structure with an average grain size of about 63 nm, lattice parameter a = 5.62 and a unique mixture of L21 and B2 phases. The hysteresis loops measured at different temperatures indicated a well-known ferromagnetic behavior for the reduced remanent, where a monotonic increasing in the reduced remanent and saturation magnetization occurs. The coercivity shows anomalous behavior compared to the Co2Mn-based glass-coated microwires. The magnetization curves for field cooling and field heating (FC–FH) demonstrate a considerable dependence on the applied magnetic field, ranging from 50 Oe to 20 kOe. Internal stresses, originated by the production process, resulted in various magnetic phases, which were responsible for the notable difference of FC and FH curves on magnetization dependence versus temperature. Furthermore, the ferromagnetic behavior and expected high Curie temperature, together with high degree of the L21 order, make it a promising candidate for many applications.
