Peter Stenvinkel is a senior lecturer at Karolinska University Hospital and Professor of Nephrology at Karolinska Institutet (KI). He is in collaboration with basic research labs, Baxter Novum, geneticists, and epidemiologists. He conducts translational research with a focus on risk factors for metabolic, cardiovascular, and nutritional complications in chronic kidney disease (CKD). He also conducts biomimetic studies to learn from solutions developed in nature in collaboration with ecologists, biologists, and veterinarians. He received his MD from Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden in 1982 and became Leg Läk in 1984. He obtained a Doctorial degree from Karolinska Institutet in Renal Medicine in 1994. He served as a Visiting Associate Professor University of California Davis, USA from 2000 to 2001 and as a Visiting Professor in Perth Australia in November 2013. He received the prize for the best Swedish thesis in diabetology in 1994 and was a Baxter Extramural Grant awardee in 1996. He was a Karolina Price awardee 2005 and a Vizenca price awardee 2009. He received the Addis Gold medal from the ISRNM for nutritional research in 2010. He received the ERA-EDTA prize for outstanding educational contribution in 2017.
