Non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II is a classical multi-objective optimization algorithm but it suffers from poor diversity and the tendency to fall into a local optimum. In this paper, we propose an improved non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm, which aims to address the issues of poor global optimization ability and poor convergence ability. The improved NSGA-II algorithm not only uses Levy distribution for global search, which enables the algorithm to search a wider range, but also improves the local search capability by using the relatively concentrated search property of random walk. Moreover, an adaptive balance parameter is designed to adjust the respective contributions of the exploration and exploitation abilities, which lead to a faster search of the algorithm. It helps to expand the search area, which increases the diversity of the population and avoids getting trapped in a local optimum. The superiority of the improved NSGA-II algorithm is demonstrated through benchmark test functions and a practical application. It is shown that the improved strategy provides an effective improvement in the convergence and diversity of the traditional algorithm.

This paper focuses on the latest studies and applications of Photovoltaic (PV) systems and Energy Storage Systems (ESS) in buildings from perspectives of system configurations, mathematic models, and optimization of design and operation. Mathematical models, which can accurately calculate PV yield and support integrating green electricity and energy storage into the grid, were reviewed. Using these mathematic models, various configurations and factors affecting PV system performance were explored. Key findings reveal that PV systems, which operate without using fossil fuels and emitting carbon dioxide, can significantly reduce buildings’ dependence on fossil energy and achieve deep decarbonization. Factors, such as temperature and solar radiation, need to be considered in improving PV performance and yield. Except from classifying different PV systems and discussing renewable energy generation performance, operation strategies of power systems with PV generation and storage, were also summarized to enhance green energy utilization and economic performances. This paper offers guidance on designing and operating high-efficiency PV-ESS in buildings.

Remaining useful life (RUL) prediction is critical for ensuring the reliability and safety of industrial equipment. In recent years, Transformer-based models have been widely employed in RUL prediction tasks for rolling bearings, owing to their superior capability in capturing global features. However, Transformers exhibit limitations in extracting local temporal features, making it challenging to fully model the degradation process. To address this issue, this paper proposes a parallel hybrid prediction approach based on Transformer and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks. The proposed method begins by applying Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) to the raw vibration signals of rolling bearings, decomposing them into a series of Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs), from which statistical features are extracted. These features are then normalized and used to construct the input dataset for the model. In the model architecture, the LSTM network is employed to capture local temporal dependencies, while the Transformer module is utilized to model long-range relationships for RUL prediction. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated using mean absolute error (MAE) and root mean square error (RMSE). Experimental validation is conducted on the PHM2012 dataset, along with generalization experiments on the XJTU-SY dataset. The results demonstrate that the proposed Transformer–LSTM approach achieves high prediction accuracy and strong generalization performance, outperforming conventional methods such as LSTM and GRU.
