A 980-nm semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM) mode-locked Yb-doped phosphate fiber laser is demonstrated by using an all-fiber linear cavity configuration. Two different kinds of cavity lengths are introduced into the oscillator to obtain a robust and stable mode-locked seed source. When the cavity length is chosen to be 6 m, the oscillator generates an average output power of 3.5 mW and a pulse width of 76.27 ps with a repetition rate of 17.08 MHz. As the cavity length is optimized to short, 4.4-mW maximum output power and 61.15-ps pulse width are produced at a repetition rate of 20.96 MHz. The output spectrum is centered at 980 nm with a narrow spectral bandwidth of 0.13 nm. In the experiment, no undesired amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) nor harmful oscillation around 1030 nm is observed. Moreover, through a two-stage all-fiber-integrated amplifier, an output power of 740 mW is generated with a pulse width of 200 ps.
In this Letter, a high-power all-fiber mid-infrared (MIR) supercontinuum (SC) laser source based on 9 cm long germania-core fiber (GCF) pumped by a high-power thulium-doped fiber amplifier is presented. As the pump power was set as 60 W, we obtained a 21.34 W broadband SC source extending from 1742 to 3512 nm with a slope efficiency of 32.5%. The 10 dB spectral bandwidth was over 1000 nm, spanning 1.97 to 3.04 µm. Furthermore, the numerical simulation of SC generation in GCF was in good agreement with the experimental results. As far as we know, this is the highest average output power over 3.5 µm in GCF based on a MIR SC laser source.
We report an all-fiberized chirped pulse amplification system without any bulk devices. The stretcher and compressor are chirped fiber Bragg gratings inscribed in a 6/125 μm single-mode fiber and a 30/250 μm large-mode-area fiber. The fabrication system of chirped fiber Bragg gratings was designed and built by ourselves. The width of the linear exposure spot was controlled according to the different fiber sizes to improve the fabrication quality, and the parameters of chirped fiber Bragg gratings were fine-tuned during the fabrication to achieve the overall system’s spectral matching. Two fiber circulators with the same fiber sizes as the chirped fiber Bragg gratings were employed to auxiliarily achieve the pulse stretching and compression. The dispersion accumulations provided by the stretcher and compressor are 129.8 ps and 90.8 ps. The power amplifiers were composed of the two-stage 10/130 μm fiber pre-amplifier and the 30/250 μm fiber main amplifier. The proposed chirped pulse amplification system with no spatial light is the true sense of an all-fiberized chirped pulse amplification structure and shows the main trend in development of ultrashort pulse fiber lasers.
